Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyse UNICEF strategic and essential commodity procurement trends.
  • Devise, evaluate and implement methods for collecting data on needs, demand, market conditions and shortcomings for both existing and new innovative products.
  • Analyse and convert complex market data and findings into understandable tables, graphs, and written reports, including interpretation of findings.
  • Contribute to the development of market influencing strategies for strategic commodities by interpreting market research and discerning how procurement approaches, financing mechanisms, and information-driven interventions can positively influence supplier behaviour.
  • Support the ‘local market’ influencing strategy to improve local markets and/or increase on-continent production, including through expanded access to financing for suppliers in program countries.
  • Draft internal reports and support the preparation of external product / market notes and dashboards, and improve the quality of SD’s published market information.
  • Support the publication of price data and other market information for key products by Procurement Centres.
  • Support the secretariat for SD’s Influencing Markets Coordination Group (that coordinates strategic and tactical market shaping efforts within SD) and any other relevant internal/external advisory groups.

DECISION-MAKING AND IMPACT/KEY RESULTS:

  • Comprehensive market intelligence is maintained and kept up-to-date to inform UNICEF’s efforts in influencing markets.
  • Solid analyses are conducted as an input to procurement strategy development and UNICEF’s strategic engagement with key manufacturers/suppliers.
  • Market influencing strategies explicitly consider if, where and how supplier financing tools and other market influencing interventions can support achievement of market goals.
  • Appropriate R&D pull (financing and procurement) mechanisms are considered where needed to help UNICEF accelerate development, improve availability and affordability particularly for novel essential supplies for children.
  • Suppliers domiciled in programme countries operating in markets for selected essential supplies for children have improved access to market information and financing options to address market constraints.
  • High-quality market notes are published and widely disseminated, with measurable impact.

 QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

 Education:

A completed 1st university degree (Bachelor's Degree) in business administration, economics, financing, industrial policy, or other related discipline is required.

Work Experience:

A minimum of two (2) years professional work experience in relevant discipline(s) is required; e.g.: market research, market dynamics, market shaping, market access, business development, supply financing (particularly for health/nutrition supplies) or economics.

Experience in the following areas in the private or public sectors is preferred:

  • Market research issues relating to health, nutrition, and/or products used in resource-poor settings.
  • Development of demand forecasts, economic/epidemiological models, or other types of projections.
  • Working on data analytics and/or business intelligence, including proven experience in collecting, analysing, visualizing and reporting complex data.
  • Commercial activities (acquisitions / business / contracting)
  • Working with trust funds and/or innovative financing mechanisms or supplier financing structures.
  • Report writing, presentation and dissemination of information for a broad audience.

 Languages:

Fluency and excellent writing skills in English are essential.

Proficiency in another UN official language is an asset.
