PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Under the close supervision of the Communication Specialist, incumbent support the implementation and monitoring of advocacy, communication and C4D strategies by providing administrative & financial assistance, ensuring logistics support and contributing to content production.

KEY END-RESULT

• Strategies implementation:  effective support to implement advocacy, communication and C4D strategies by accompanying the planning process, as well as preparing appropriate and timely research on the target audience, baseline and monitoring data with relevant analysis.
 
• Media relations: effective support to fuel strategic and productive partnership with communication departments of national partners, journalists and media outlets covering all media –print, TV, radio, web etc.-- to achieve the expected results.
 
• Monitoring: maintain the regular monitoring of stakeholders and general public perception of UNICEF; assist in data collection and analysis in line with KPIs outlined in the communication strategy, including media monitoring; maintain records, files and work plans for the monitoring of project/activity implementation; ensure the regular update on monitoring reports.
 
• Communication materials:  contribute to the production of communication assets (includes press releases, human interest stories, newsletters, annual reports, publications, photographs, videos, etc.); as well as to the dissemination of those assets through mass media and UNICEF online media.
 
• Partners and special events: maintain an updated contact list of stakeholders, key individuals or groups, organizations, national and local Governments, UN agencies, implementing partners, diplomatic corps and other public targets, to guarantee the expected audience reach on a case by case basis.
 
• Financial and administrative support: organize data and information; Assist in the financial and administrative processes linked to the communication’s section, including the preparation of contracts, procurement requests, PCAs or payment processing. Assist in monitoring the annual budget of the communication section and financial expenditures.

• Assist in coordinating appropriate and timely research on the target audience, baseline and monitoring data with relevant analysis.
• Assists in the production of advocacy and communication materials (e.g., print, videos, audio-visuals, etc.) by goods and service providers, monitor qualitative aspects of production, (e.g., quality control, translations, visual image, layout and graphic design etc.) to meet standards set forth in the UNICEF Communication Toolkit.
• Assists in making recommendations to establish contacts, networks, resources and processes to support communication activities.
• Assists in making recommendations to select information and communication materials for use in media, and other advocacy and communication activities.

• Maintain and update contact list/database of media partners. Ensure rapid and accurate responses and information to disseminate to the media.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining partnership with communication department of national partners, journalists, media outlets and other communication and key media stakeholders.
• Prepare briefs, background information notes, and communication materials for media, donor and other stakeholder visits.
• Assist in collaborating with the media through events and opportunities such as press briefs and conference, field programme visits, photo ops, video and TV footage.
 
• Monitoring: maintain the regular monitoring of stakeholders and general public perception of UNICEF; assist in data collection and analysis in line with KPIs outlined in the communication strategy, including media monitoring; maintain records, files and work plans for the monitoring of project/activity implementation; ensure the regular update on monitoring reports.

• Monitor and support the appropriate and timely dissemination of advocacy and communication materials to target audiences, and participate in the internal evaluation of impacts.
• Monitor the stakeholders and general public perception of UNICEF in the country and recommend appropriate actions to the Communication Specialist to maintain a positive and independent image of UNICEF.
• Assist in monitoring the annual budget of the communication section and financial expenditures;
• Assist in data collection and analysis in line with KPIs outlined in the communication strategy, including media monitoring.
 
• Communication materials:  contribute to the production of communication assets (includes press releases, human interest stories, newsletters, annual reports, publications, photographs, videos, etc.); as well as to the dissemination of those assets through mass media and UNICEF online media.

• Support the production of communication materials (e.g. briefing notes, audio-visual, web pages, etc.) that meet global standards as set out in the Communication Toolkit.
• Maintain up-to-date communication materials including press releases, statements, clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.
• Partners and special events: maintain an updated contact list of stakeholders, key individuals or groups, organizations, national and local Governments, UN agencies, implementing partners, diplomatic corps and other public targets, to guarantee the expected audience reach on a case by case basis.
 
Duties & Tasks

• Assist in organising and generate public support for special events to promote UNICEF activities, children’s rights and country programme results.
• Maintain and update celebrity partner contact lists and database of activities. 
• Assist in preparing ‘induction’ for celebrity partners.
• Assists to prepare briefs, background information notes and communication and promotion materials for briefings and visits of media, Goodwill Ambassadors, donors, National Committee representatives and other stakeholders.
• Ensure UNICEF branding at events and coordinate all logistics for the appropriate development of the events
 
• Financial and Administrative support: organize data and information; Assist in the financial and administrative processes linked to the communication’s section, including the preparation of contracts, procurement requests, PCAs or payment processing. Assist in monitoring the annual budget of the communication section and financial expenditures.

• Assist in monitoring the annual budget of the communication section and financial expenditures.
• Supports the planning and coordination of internal and external meetings and events, including producing minutes.

QUALIFICATION and COMPETENCIES

Education

Completion of secondary education. Technical or university courses in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or social science desired.

Work Experience

At least 5 years professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media. Experience in financial and administrative support will be an asset.

Language Proficiency 

Fluency in Spanish and English required
