In The Gambia, UNICEF works with the Government to deliver services for children across the country. Guided by the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF works to ensure every child survives and thrives, and is protected from violence, discrimination and all forms of harmful traditional practices.

Since 1965, we have partnered with the Government of The Gambia to strengthen national laws and policies and empower local communities to deliver better services for women and children. Our interventions are based on our Country Programme, signed with the Government of The Gambia. We implement our programmes in line with the country's National Development Plan, the United Nations Development Assistance Framework, and the Sustainable Development Goals. 

How can you make a difference? 

The national consultants will work with the international consultant, and EPI MoH in proper planning, utilization, stock management, disposal (if necessary) and reporting of all vaccines used in polio outbreak response campaigns and support the coordination of SBC activities in the communities. Each of the successful national consultants will be assigned to a region to support overall polio response activities including social and behavior change (SBC). The consultants will work closely with the Regional Health Directorate team. The consultant will work under the supervision of the UNICEF immunization officer in strong collaboration with health the specialist and the CSD manager at UNICEF as well as with the national EPI program counterparts. The duration of the assignment is three months, and the consultant will submit monthly progress reports to the Immunization Officer.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

• University Degree in one or more of the following disciplines: Public Health, Social Sciences, or a field relevant to the Cold Chain Logistics and Vaccine Management and health promotion.
• A minimum of 5 years of practical work experience in immunization focusing on Cold Chain and Vaccines Supplies, Supply Management Systems, and social behavior change.
• Fluency in English and at least one local language to work in the community.
• Ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and concisely, in written and oral form.
• Fully proficient computer skills including use of relevant software and other applications.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
