The Senior programme associate (environmental/climate change) plays a substantive role in the UNICEF country Programme. S/he will support the country office to document, analyze and showcase the climate change consequences for women and children in Guinea. S/he will also support the mainstreaming of environmental sustainability across UNICEF programmes and operations while ensuring alignment between UNICEF's global Climate Change Strategic Framework and the country office programmes. S/he will support the development of practices and mechanisms to reduce the office carbon footprint going forward.
How can you make a difference?
Under the close supervision and guidance of the Chief WASH, the Senior Programme Associate Environmental Climate Change will be in charge of following activities:
- Strengthen mainstreaming of environmental sustainability in UNICEF country programmes throughout the Programme Management Cycle.
- Further promote addressing the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation on children and their rights in the national policy discourse.
- Advocate for full recognition and inclusion of children’s environmental needs in the global policy discourse on climate change and environment.
- Strengthen opportunities for children’s health and well-being to benefit from climate and environment related public and private finance.
- Support the incorporation of environmental sustainability management (ESM) in the organization. This shall include although not be limited to efforts to measure, reduce and offset the country office carbon footprint, also known as ‘Greening the blue’;
- Support coordination and implementation of climate change and green economy-related activities.
- Produce and keep updated a map of resilience, adaptation and mitigation activities related to climate change at district, region and national levels.
- Support website content management vis-à-vis climate change and green economy issues.
- Produce video, photo and written documentation of CO success stories, or lack of, on climate change responsiveness.
- Support documentation of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to country program goals and activities.
- Support CO and implementing partners to organize and implement public events such as commemoration of important environmental days (national tree planting day, international day of rural women, etc.).
- Provide editorial support to the CO for documents such as proposals, donor reports, speeches and advocacy materials related to climate change and the green economy.
- Support preparation of promotional materials design and production.
- Documentation of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to country program goals and activities as well as preparation of promotional materials design and production.
- Carrying out transactions in VISION ensuring programme results, activities and programme coding are as per annual work plans (AWPs) and making amendments and alterations as per section revisions when necessary.
- Carrying out transactions in VISION pertaining to grants and programme-related items for his/her section including but not limited to registering grant allotments and tracking expiring programme grants.
- Preparing monitoring and reporting information for supervisor and team on agreed performance indicators to drive more efficient management and accountability for results.
- Regularly monitoring budgets and financial expenditures of section by employing applicable tools, ensuring compliance with UNICEF rules and regulations, keeping supervisor informed and advised on actions for decision and/or follow up.
- Helping prepare periodic or ad-hoc financial reports relating to country office and donors to support the office in optimizing use of programme funds.
- Supports capacity development activities related to programme development by preparing training materials and participating in exercises.

Minimum requirements:
Education:
Completion of secondary degree. A University degree in environmental studies, social population studies, developmental studies, population and demography and/or other related social science field would be an asset.
For this position, an university degree in the relevant field delivered by a recognized institution from World Higher Education Database (WHED) Portal may replace three years of professional experience. A master degree may replace two additional years
Experience:
- A minimum of seven years of administrative or clerical work experience is required.
- Prior experience in programme support functions is an asset.
- Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
- An experience in climate change / environment is an added advantage;
- Job experience within an institution (academic, government, civil society) with a focus on Climate Change, children’s environmental needs and development would be an advantage;
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
Language
- Proficiency French is required; Working knowledge of English is an asset
