Purpose of assignment:
The assignment aims to enhance UNICEF’s capacity in CEED by supporting the mobilization on climate finance. This will be achieved by conceptualizing proposals, developing concept notes and proposals for major international climate funds- particularly vertical funds and international financial institutions (IFIs) and creating climate rationales for UNICEF South Sudan.
Scope of work:
1. Collaborate with UNICEF programme teams at Headquarters, Regional, and Country Office levels(South Sudan) to lead the development of concept notes and project proposals for vertical climate funds and IFIs that address country-specific needs South Sudan.
2. Develop comprehensive sector wise (WASH) and cross-sectoral climate change rationales for adapting social services for children in response to major climate hazards. With focus to WASH as essential social services. Major climate hazards will be prioritized as part of the inception process and could include floods, droughts, and heatwaves.

Minimum requirements: (Qualifications/Specialized knowledge/experience/skills)
• Education: Advanced university degree in environmental science, climate change, international development or related field
• Work experience: At least 10 years of relevant experience, including leading similar assignments and successfully securing funding from major vertical climate funds e.g. GCF, GEF, and AF (has led the development of at least four approved full proposals from major vertical climate funds)
• Extensive experience in developing high-quality proposals for vertical climate funds, with a proven track record of successful funding applications, contextual experience in fragile settings etc.
• Expertise in developing comprehensive cross-sectoral climate change rationales for adapting social services, including health, education, nutrition, WASH, child protection, and social protection
• Ability to manage multiple workstreams, coordinate with diverse stakeholders, and deliver outputs under tight timelines.
• Language requirements: Fluency in English required; knowledge of additional UNICEF regional languages is an advantage.
