This internship is part of UNICEF’s work in Social and Behavior Change (SBC), which focuses on understanding how people think, behave, and interact, and supporting positive shifts in behaviours, attitudes, and social and gender norms. One key component of this work, is supporting girls’ empowerment. In this context, SBC approaches aim at creating an enabling environment where girls can further enhance their skills, participation and agency.
This includes working with communities and partners to further promote equality between girls and boys, support girls’ participation and empowerment, challenge harmful social and gender norms, and strengthen girls’ voice, confidence, and ability to make informed decisions.
How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision of the SBC Specialist – Girls’ Empowerment, the intern will support the design, coordination, and documentation of initiatives that contribute to advancing these objectives and improving outcomes for adolescent girls.
Main tasks and responsibilities
The intern will contribute to the team’s work by:
- Supporting knowledge and content development : assisting in the preparation and review of briefing notes, presentations, concept notes, and other materials related to girls’ empowerment.
- Contributing to monitoring and reporting: organizing programme data, drafting summaries, and documenting key insights and lessons learned.
- Facilitating coordination and collaboration: supporting communication and coordination with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment of activities.
- Providing administrative and logistical support: assisting with general operational tasks to support the smooth functioning of the Girls’ Empowerment Unit.

Minimum requirements
Education: Enrolment in a degree programme in an undergraduate or graduate school, or recent graduation (< 2 years)
Work Experience: Strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records
Language Requirements: Fluency in Arabic and proficiency in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, French or Spanish

- In accordance with UNICEF's guidelines, all interns must receive a stipend (70% of net monthly salary of GS 3).
- There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.
- UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern's service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan prior to starting his/her work. If accepted, the intern will be required to provide a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on conditions regarding service as an intern
- Interns may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons.
- Interns shall observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions and procedures and directives of UNICEF.
