BACKGROUND / RATIONALE
The world is seeing an increased frequency of disease outbreaks since COVID-19. Kenya has experienced recent outbreak of diseases including Polio, Mpox, Cholera, Measles, Yellow Fever, Rift Valley Fever, and Malaria. Kenya is also on high-alert due to outbreak in its neighboring countries including Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) Influx of migrant and refugee population from the neighboring counties, high volume of international trade and transport, and lack of access to clean water and sanitation system in parts of the country make Kenya particularly prone to the outbreaks.
Since the issuance of COVID-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan Operational Planning Guideline (2021), WHO identified Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) and infodemic management as the key pillar of essential actions to prevent and contain infectious diseases.
