The aim of the campaign is to spread key messages on the benefits of immunization through digital platforms in collaboration with local social media influencers. The campaign materials are scheduled for use in April, particularly during World Immunization Week, with a focus on reaching parents of children aged 0 to 6 years.
Azerbaijan maintained high national immunization coverage rates until 2019. However, at the sub-national level, some districts experienced lower coverage due to the piloting of healthcare reforms in these areas, although this did not significantly impact national averages. Since 2020, Azerbaijan has faced a decline in immunization coverage. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted immunization services, significantly affecting DTP1 and DTP3 coverage rates, which dropped to 79% and 82%, respectively, in 2020.
There are significant regional (sub-national) variations in coverage in immunization throughout the country. The officially reported data on vaccination coverage by districts shows an increase in the number of children who did not receive DTP1 and DTP3 doses in 28 districts in 2022 compared to the previous year.
