UNICEF's Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC) in Budapest, Hungary supports UNICEF operations globally in the areas of Finance, Human Resources, Payroll and Information Technology. Internships with UNICEF offer eligible candidates the opportunity to gain experience in UNICEF’s work and get familiar with its mandate.

An internship is the perfect way to kick start your career. Through this internship, you can gain your first experience of daily working life. We offer you the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge you acquired during your studies. In addition to theoretical knowledge, you will also gain initial practical experience.

As our new intern, you will support the Communications Team in the Service Quality Management (SQM) section. The communications function at the GSSC manages internal and external communication platforms, producing multimedia content, newsletters, and campaigns to enhance staff engagement and knowledge sharing. It supports various communication initiatives, including visual content creation, SharePoint management and the coordination of strategic messaging and events. 

Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Communication Specialist, the intern will support the team with content creation for the GSSC’s internal platforms.

How can you make a difference? 

  • Write articles to the GSSC’s internal SharePoint site. 
  • Support in visual design tasks, such as editing presentations, flyers or other visual materials. 
  • Provide administrative SharePoint support to GSSC colleagues. 
  • Provide administrative support to the team as required. 
  • Support planning and execution of internal communications campaigns. 
  • Support in the production of the GSSC’s podcast, Talking GSSC. 
  • Support in staff engagement initiatives. 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Current enrollment in a journalism/communication/marketing degree programme with competencies in writing/editing, video production, graphic design, or be a recent graduate (within the past two years).
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
  • Eligible applicants must be nationals of EU countries or be eligible to work in Hungary.
  • Individuals are personally responsible for obtaining any required visa or residence permit, covering the entire period of their internship.
  • The selected intern will be required to provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior taking up the assignment.

Required competencies:

  • Technical – Very good analytical skills and ability to synthesize concepts and material into clear and concise thoughts.  
  • Technical – Experience with data visualization, graphic design, video software and tools. 
  • Managing resources – Organizes and manages information to achieve defined goals and optimum results. 
  • Communication – Effectively presents thoughts and ideas including complex technical concepts, in a clear, concise, and readily understood manner, both verbally and in writing. Listens to and acknowledges others' perspectives and views. 
  • Flexibility – Works effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapts to changing demands and circumstances. 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills – Able to work well in a team environment. 
  • Ability to work independently. 

Contract Duration and Terms

This contract is for an initial 3-month duration, 30-40 working hours/week, a minimum of 3 days per week office attendance required, 2 days per week can be remote. Intern is expected to be in the office when needed for specific activities. The anticipated start date of this internship is December 2024. The intern must fund their travel and living expenses. This internship is paid with a stipend of net HUF 2105 / hour capped at net HUF 362,133 per month. Interns may take up to 2.5 paid leave days per month for any reason, including for medical reasons. The stipend will be reduced for any absence beyond this quota.

UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
