How can you make a difference? 

Objective:

The primary objective of this consultancy is to provide technical oversight and follow-up on the implementation, functionality, and sustainability of 70 solar stations across nine governorates. The Engineer will ensure that all installations comply with safety standards, contractual agreements, and project timelines while addressing any challenges that may arise during execution.

Methodology:

The Engineer will adopt a structured approach to project monitoring, including:

  • Site Visits: Conducting regular inspections to assess progress, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Technical Reviews: Ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with contractors, government entities, and local authorities for effective project execution.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Providing detailed progress reports, identifying challenges, and recommending solutions.
  • Capacity Building: supervision the training for Government teams by the contractor team on maintenance and sustainability practices for the installed solar systems.
  • Final validation of the system

ACTIVITIES, DELIVERABLES AND TIMELINES, PLUS BUDGET PER DELIVERABLE:

-Conducting regular site visits to monitor the installation and commissioning of solar systems.

-Ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.

-Supervising the contractor's training of government teams on maintenance and sustainability practices for the installed solar systems.

-Coordinating with contractors, government entities, and local authorities for effective project execution.

-Providing detailed progress reports, identifying challenges, and recommending solutions.

-Overseeing the final testing, grid connection, and handover of the solar systems to the governmental entities.

-Supporting the training of engineers and technicians on solar system operation, maintenance, and monitoring.

Conditions of work:

  • The consultant will work under the supervision of UNICEF's designated WASH officer.
  • Frequent travel to the nine governorates is required for site visits and monitoring.
  • The consultant must have their own laptop and communication tools.
  • All deliverables must be submitted as reports in English.
  • Safety measures and technical compliance must be strictly followed.
  • This task is not office based, so neither office space nor ICT support will be provided

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

-Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering from a recognized institution.

-Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in solar energy system installation, commissioning, and project supervision.

-Proven track record in quality assurance, compliance monitoring, and technical evaluation of solar projects.

-Strong communication and coordination skills with experience in working alongside government entities and contractors.

-Proficient in English and Arabic, with good communication and technical writing skills

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
