Background
Children and Adolescent are a massive cohort, with an immense potential to benefit their societies socially, politically and economically. They are also the most effective champions for the issues that impact them, and they have a unique power to galvanize their peers around issues they are passionate about. To realize children’s rights decision makers, including adults, companies and world leaders should work with children and adolescents as agents of change to advance the integrated early childhood education agenda for children in Namibia.

Overall objective
It’s in this context that UNICEF Namibia seeks to engage multi-talented Communications Interns who will play a pivotal role in amplifying the Integrated RightStart Campaign messages through community engagements using digital and traditional communication channels for visibility while also contributing graphic design expertise to enhance visual communication strategies.
Scope of Work
The Interns are expected to work in close collaboration with the ECD Specialist, Nutrition Specialist and Education Specialist, and will fall under direct supervision/guidance of the Advocacy, Communication and Partnership Specialist.
Main tasks, activities and responsibilities
1. (Digital and Traditional Communications & Graphic Design):
i. Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies to raise awareness about the importance of Integrated Early Childhood Development through the RightStart Campaign initiative among various stakeholders, utilizing both online and offline channels.
ii. Design visually appealing and engaging graphics, infographics, presentations, and other visual content to accompany communication materials across various platforms.
iii. Craft compelling written content for social media platforms, websites, newsletters, press releases, and other communication channels, ensuring consistency in messaging and alignment with the Right Start branding.
iv. Monitor social media channels, engage with followers, respond to inquiries, and analyze performance metrics to optimize content and engagement strategies.
v. Collaborate closely with the Regional RightStart Committee, the Public Relation Officers in the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Ministry of Health and Social Services, Civil Society Organizations working with communities, parents and caregivers on ECD, and other regional stakeholders to identify communication needs, brainstorm ideas, and coordinate campaigns and initiatives to promote the objectives of the Right Start Campaign.
2. Public and Community Engagement for Visibility and Knowledge sharing
i. Participate in the Regional and local community engagement, peer-to-peer activities, including workshops, school visits, etc.
ii. Organize and participate in key regional events to promote the Right Start Campaign, takeovers’, advocacy events and ensure equity and inclusion.
i. Identify best practices during community engagements and document Human Interest Stories.
ii. Under the supervision and in coordination with UNICEF, assist in organizing High level visits to identified communities to showcase compelling work done through the Right Start Campaign
3. In addition to these tasks, ad hoc tasks might be requested to support the general work of the Right Start Campaign at regional and local levels.

Eligibility & Minimum requirements
To be considered for the internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Enrolment in a degree programme in an undergraduate or graduate school, or recent graduation.
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or obtained a degree in a related field.
- Proficiency in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, French or Spanish and fluent in the working language of the office of assignment.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools, social media management platforms, and graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor content for different audiences and platforms.
- Strong creativity and a keen eye for design aesthetics, with the ability to translate complex ideas into visually appealing and understandable graphics.
