The purpose of this consultancy is to support the effective operationalization and contextual implementation of child protection interventions within the education system of São Tomé and Príncipe, ensuring that systems, tools and approaches developed at central level are translated into functional, child-friendly and sustainable practices at school level. The Caribbean is highly vulnerable to natural disasters and climate-related hazards that can disrupt education, damage school infrastructure, and affect learning continuity. To address these risks, CDEMA, with support from UNICEF, developed the online Safe Schools: Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience course to strengthen school safety and disaster preparedness among education professionals.
Building on the success of the online course, this initiative aims to develop a competency-based, face-to-face training programme that emphasizes practical skills, peer learning, and school-level action planning. The resulting training package will serve as a standardized regional resource that can be adapted and delivered by Ministries of Education and other institutions to strengthen the resilience and preparedness of education systems across the Caribbean.
