Under the guidance of Chief of Health, the incumbent provides technical support on health systems strengthening to facilitate the achievement of concrete and sustainable results, synergies according to organizational and country specific strategic plans, donor and programme focus areas applying results based-management approaches meeting standards of performance aligned to existing accountability frameworks.
This position will coordinate the health systems strengthening function in the health section and provide high level technical advice at national and state levels on health systems strengthening.
The Chief Health reports to the Deputy Representative, Programmes for general guidance and direction. The Chief is responsible for managing and leading all stages of health programmes (e.g., gender, maternal, neonatal, adolescent, Child Immunization, child survival, HIV, and emergency preparedness) from strategic planning and formulation to delivery of results. S/he leads and manages the health team including establishing plans of action to achieve concrete and sustainable results according to plans, allocation, results-based management approaches and methodology (RBM), as well as UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance, and accountability framework, and does so in consultation with the Regional Health Adviser.

The Health Officer will support the environmental health, climate change and emergency preparedness and response programme as part of the overall health programme of the Country Office. Reporting to the Health Specialist, the focus areas of your work will include technical and operational support for evidence generation on environmental hazards and children’s health, strengthening institutional capacity for policies, legislation, strategies, multisectoral coordination and partnerships as well as social and behavior change campaigns to ensure healthy environments for healthy children within the primary health care system in Bangladesh.
