Auparavant, principalement réservé aux enfants et aux femmes enceintes, le PEV s’est maintenant élargi à d’autres cibles le long du cycle de vie, à l’image de la vaccination des filles âgées de 9 à 14 ans contre le Virus du Papillome Humain ainsi que la vaccination contre la Covid-19. Ceci a pour implication directe une nécessité plus accrue des exigences en termes de gestion logistique et programmatique.
A cela s’ajoute la forte baisse des couvertures vaccinales avec l’avènement de la pandémie de Covid-19 et une reprise timide de la relance. En effet, selon les estimations de l’OMS/UNICEF, la pandémie de Covid-19 a eu des répercussions sans précédent sur les services de vaccination de routine entrainant une augmentation du nombre d’enfants « zéro dose » et sous-vaccinés. Au Sénégal, la couverture au Penta 3 est passée de 95 % à 83 % en 2023 selon les données de l’EDS. Il s’y ajoute que depuis 2022, le pays fait face à des épidémies de rougeole dans plusieurs districts sanitaires mais aussi à l’identification d’isolats environnementaux de poliovirus avec des campagnes de vaccination en vue pour les deux antigènes.
Pour apporter un appui adéquat à cette situation et soutenir le PEV, l’UNICEF recrute un administrateur chargé de la vaccination pour une durée temporaire de 11 mois.
