To support implementation of the work plan activities for 2024 related to justice for children and elimination of violence against children.

UNICEF Uzbekistan CO is currently implementing interventions in the area of children’s access to justice within the remaining two years of the Country Program for 2021-2025. These interventions are aimed at promoting and ensuring children’s access to justice in line with international standards and norms. The focus of the remainder of the Country Program will be on piloting diversion and alternative measures to deprivation of liberty for children in conflict with the law, enhancing the system of prevention of child offending, strengthening legal safeguards for child victims and witnesses of crimes as well as to ensuring access of children in contact with the law to child-friendly and gender-sensitive legal aid and legal information about their human and legal rights. To support the implementation of these activities UNICEF CO is looking for an intern willing to expose herself or himself to working in international environment and to contribute to the realization of children’s rights in the area of justice.

It is expected that the intern will perform the following task to support 2024 work plan related activities:

  1. To attend coordination meetings with partners, and programme activities, take meeting notes, follow up on agreed action points with relevant partners.
  2. To assist in conducting a mapping of existing services and programmes that could be utilized for piloting diversion and alternatives to deprivation of liberty for children in conflict with the law.
  3. To assist in carrying out activities related to the promotion of the draft Strategy on Children’s Access to Justice for Children for 2024-2034 and its Roadmap.
  4. To assist in conducting events for children related to children’s human and legal rights.
  5. To assist in producing child-friendly awareness raising materials and content on topics related to protection of children from all forms of violence, online protection of children, access to justice for children and child rights.
  6. To contribute to developing instruments on monitoring of closed institutions for children and consolidating the findings and results of monitoring visits.
  7. To produce monthly reports on piloting diversion and alternatives to deprivation of liberty in target districts.
  8. To perform other tasks in the area of justice for children and EVAC as requested.

Special considerations

Data confidentiality: The intern must keep confidential any and all unpublished information made known during the course
of the internship and not publish any reports or paper on the basis of information obtained except with the written approval
and authorization of UNICEF.

Duration: The duration of an internship is normally between six and twenty-six weeks. The internship can be on a full-time
or a part-time basis. The duration of a part-time internship cannot exceed the equivalent of twenty-six weeks on a full-time
basis.

Interns are responsible for making arrangements to obtain the required visa for the duration of the internship. Interns may
take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons. The stipend will be reduced for any
absences beyond this quota.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Be enrolled in a Master’s Degree in Law/Jurisprudenceat one of the universities of Uzbekistan.
  • A relevant background in national and/or international Law. A final year student or recent graduate (within the past two
    years) of Law Faculty (bachelor’s degree) at one of the universities in Uzbekistan.
  • Interest and willingness to contribute to promotion and ensuring the child rights on protection from all forms of violence, access
    to justice for children and other child rights in Uzbekistan.
  • Additional consideration will be given to any professional experience relevant to the function of this ToR.
  • Motivation to be exposed to work in international environment and systems’ level.
  • Fluency in English, Uzbek and Russian are required.

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • NO immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office;
