How can you make a difference? 

The Communication Section, UNICEF Thailand Country Office is seeking a Communication Consultant (Media Engagement) who will be responsible for developing targeted media and communication assets such as stories, interviews, media pitches, and driving media engagement for key priorities in this 2025-2026 media plan. This includes delivering on new advocacy priorities and public campaigns such as healthy living and climate change. The consultant will also work on monitoring the media engagements on these fronts.

Work assignment and deliverables:

Home-based modality

Under the direct supervision of Communication Officer, and working closely with various communication, programme and fundraising colleagues, the Communication Consultant (Media Engagement) will undertake the following tasks;

1. Assignment: Supporting Communication team to carry out media and communication campaigns

Expected deliverable 1:

  • Identify 10 potential cases of children and families and potential partners for healthy living and climate campaigns.
  • Facilitate communication with identified children and families as well as potential partners for these campaigns.
  • Provide media support on the campaigns.

Delivery schedule:

  • Q3 and Q4 for healthy living and climate change campaigns.

2. Assignment: Establish new media connection, maintain good relationship with them and ensure their support and coverage for UNICEF.

Expected deliverable 2:

  • Establish new connection with journalists.

Delivery schedule:

  • At least one new connection established every month.

3. Assignment: Support communication team in developing media and communication assets such as human interest stories on UNICEF advocacy agenda including healthy lifestyle, family-friendly policy, climate change, end violence against children in all settings, alternative family-based care and children with disabilities.

Expected deliverable 3:

  • Compelling human-interest stories on the theme listed above published in top-tier media outlets.

Delivery schedule:

  • At least one human interest story on the theme listed above published every month.

4. Assignment: Support the organization and facilitation of media visits/briefing to promote UNICEF advocacy agendas on healthy lifestyle, family-friendly policy, climate change, end violence against children in all settings, alternative family-based care and children with disabilities.

Expected deliverable 4:

  • Successful media visits with the attendance of key media outlets.

Delivery schedule:

  • At least one media visit/briefing on the theme listed above organized every two months.

5. Assignment: Support digital team to develop web stories, blog posts and social media posts to promote UNICEF advocacy agendas on healthy lifestyle, family-friendly policy, climate change, end violence against children in all settings, alternative family-based care and children with disabilities.

Expected deliverable 5:

  • Compelling digital assets including web stories, blog posts and social media posts.

Delivery schedule:

  • At least four digital assets on the theme listed above developed per month.

Duration of Contract:   1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026

Duty Travel:

only apply if a deliverable demonstratively cannot be produced without travel, i.e. through remote work

The consultant will be based in Bangkok, Thailand and will work under the direct supervision of the contract supervisor. The consultant may be required to travel outside Bangkok for field visits, meetings, workshops, or other activities related to the assignment. The travel costs, including airfare, accommodation, and daily subsistence allowances will be covered by UNICEF Thailand in accordance with its rules and regulations. Travel costs should be based on the amount agreed upon and pre-approved by the contract supervisor. However, the travel must be pre-approved by the contract supervisor and the relevant budget holder before the consultant makes any travel arrangements. The consultant is responsible for obtaining the necessary visas, permits, and insurance for the travel.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Qualification and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications or a related field, preferred.
  • Minimum of 6-year progressive experience in journalism, PR, communication, or other related field
  • Fluency in written and verbal English and Thai. Great writing skills in English and Thai, with skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in media outreach and engagement. A history of working with media outlets, PR agency is a plus.
  • Strong network with media contacts and journalism professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of the media professional landscape in Thailand.
  • A history of working with UN/UNICEF is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships.
  • Flexibility to travel to within Thailand.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
