Purpose of the Assignment: 

UNICEF Eswatini, in partnership with the Deputy Prime Ministers Office, UNFPA and UNESCO, and supported by the UN Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disability Fund (UNPRPD), is implementing interventions to strengthen capacity for advocacy and coalition building for disability inclusion. The interventions being implemented under this partnership include a) Sensitization of Traditional Leaders on disability inclusion, b) Capacity building on advocacy and coalition building for Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), and c) Development of a National Advocacy Strategy for Disability Inclusion.

Scope of Work:

Under the general supervision of the Child Protection Specialist, the Consultant’s scope of work will include the following: 

a) Provide support in organizing and convening capacity building activities, engagements and consultations with various project stakeholders (including traditional leaders and OPDs)

b) Facilitate the recording, analysis and collation of data during capacity building activities and consultations with various project stakeholders (including traditional leaders and OPDs) towards the development of a National Advocacy Strategy for Disability Inclusion.

c) Support the development of targeted content for disability inclusion, advocacy and coalition building to be used to for sensitizing traditional leaders and building the capacity of OPDs for strengthened advocacy and coalition building.

d) Contribute technical expertise towards the review and finalization of the National Advocacy Strategy for Disability Inclusion. 

e) Draft monthly project progress against agreed deliverables, and final project report and lessons learned document.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Enter disciplines:

• A minimum qualification of a Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Monitoring & Evaluation, or related disciplines.

Work experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in technical project implementation support.
  • Experience in the implementation of disability inclusion project will be an added advantage.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in providing technical support to development project implementation.
  • Strong stakeholder convening, coordination and organization skills, with ability to work with multi-sector national stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Work experience in disability inclusion, coalition building and advocacy will be an added advantage.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
