Based in Copenhagen, the Innovation Specialist (Specialist) will bring her/his expertise in support to the Senior Adviser Innovation (WASH Hub) to offer support around the Sustainable Finance work of WASH Hub.

More specifically, there is a need for the Specialist to provide expert guidance and support to UNICEF WASH and OOI teams, including supporting PG WASH in New York. The role supports the scaling of key initiatives in sanitation, water, and carbon, the development of tools to support IF application in WASH, and the identification and documentation of innovative case studies with potential for scaling up and strategies for leveraging sustainable and blended finance approaches to provide catalytic funding for innovative WASH approaches.

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Adviser responsible for SF in the Hub and assist in driving projects to scale in close collaboration with the Senior Adviser and the Hub Portfolio Manager. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with the New York WASH Program Group WASH Specialist (Finance and SS) and country and regional office WASH teams.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Business Administration, Finance, Social Sciences, Development, or related degree.
    *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in innovation, project management, partnership management, or international development is required, of which a minimum of 1 year of experience working with UNICEF or other UN agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating capacity for multi-country sustainable and blended financing initiatives for WASH and working in the nexus of government, country offices, and the development finance sector is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, including country offices, is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting reports and presentations for various audiences is required, including senior management
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and organizing workshops is required
  • Strong capacity to work effectively in inter-divisional teams is required.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset. 
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.  Danish or another Nordic language is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
