How can you make a difference?
The consultant is expected to consultant to provide technical expertise and support to the UNICEF Zambia WASH section in the design, implementation, and monitoring of capacity building and knowledge management activities for water system strengthening activities. Ultimately, this aims to contribute to the improved efficiency and sustainability of WASH services in Zambia by enhancing the capacity of Commercial Utilities (CUs) and Water Trusts and ensuring that knowledge and best practices are effectively managed and shared.
Scope of Work:
The Water quality capacity building and Knowledge management consultant will perform the following tasks:
- Capacity Building Design and Development
- Capacity Building Implementation and Facilitation
- Knowledge Management Strategy and Implementation
- Monitoring and Evaluation of Capacity Building initiatives
- Reporting

Education:
A bachelors' university degree in a relevant field such as Water Resources Management, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Education, or a related social science. A master’s an added advantage.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring capacity building programs, preferably in the WASH sector.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing knowledge management strategies and tools.
- Experience working with government institutions, utilities, and/or non-governmental organizations in the WASH sector in Zambia or similar contexts.
- Strong understanding of water quality analysis and monitoring, water systems strengthening approaches and practices.
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.

Language:
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
