PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENTS:

This role is being established to increase the capacity of the Audience and Market Insights (AMI) unit, specifically to enhance the actionability of research and insights.  The focus will be on supporting research related to high-value and hard-to-reach audiences. Four key areas have been identified.  Four key areas have been identified:

1. Global Insights Planning: Support and project manage the creation of the Audience Insights Ecosystem, bringing together 4 to 7 core pilot markets, arranging the kickoff meetings (2), the listening tours (1 for each pilot market, consisting of 7 to 15 interviews per market), and drafting the insights plans for each pilot market in partnership with and with support from the rest of the Audience and Market Insights team, including the High-Value Audience (HVA) Manager, Mass Manager, and Chief of Audience and Market Insights.

2. High-Value Audience Brand Tracker: Contribute to research planning (market selection, questionnaire amendments, vendor liaison), insights identification (lead analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and facilitation of insights-to-action sessions. This will be done under supervision and in partnership with the High Value Insights Manager.

3. Corporate Insights Strategy: Contribute to the yearly listening tour and insights plan to support the Corporate Partnerships team in PFP with relevant audience insight. Run select relevant projects (including methodology selection, market selection, and liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops, as relevant). This will be done under the supervision of, and in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager.

4. Major Donors Insights Strategy: Contribute to the yearly listening tour and insights plan to support the Major Donors team in PFP with relevant audience insight. Run select relevant projects (including methodology selection, market selection, and liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops as relevant). This will be done under the supervision of, and in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager.

5. Foundations Insights Strategy: Contribute to the yearly listening tour and insights plan to support the Foundations team in PFP with relevant audience insight. Run select relevant projects (including methodology selection, market selection, and liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops as relevant). This will be done under the supervision of, and in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager.

6. Advocacy Insights Strategy: Contribute to the yearly listening tour and insights plan to support the PFP Advocacy team with relevant audience insight. Run select relevant projects (including methodology selection, market selection, and liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops as relevant). This will be done under the supervision of, and in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager. 

How can you make a difference? 

SCOPE OF WORK:

Under the supervision of the High-Value Insights Manager, the Market Research Consultant will be responsible for:

  • Working with the vendors identified for the research projects described above to ensure research is executed to the appropriate standard and quality.
  • Supporting the High-Value Insights Manager in working sessions with income channel teams or markets, both globally and regionally.
  • Supporting the High-Value Insights Manager in analysis and presentation creation related to the areas described above. High-quality analysis and an engaging insights narrative are expected to resonate with a diverse group of stakeholders who may not be familiar with this type of information.
  • Apply a deep and sophisticated understanding of how to support the application of insights in a multifaceted, global organization to generate meaningful action.
  • Supporting AMI in leveraging the information gathered from the areas described above.
  • Coaching and upskilling interns and other junior staff to allow them to support key analysis and simple tasks.

DELIVERABLES - The consultant will submit monthly deliverables throughout the contract period and payments will be processed at the end of each month, upon acceptance of deliverables by the supervisor.

Deliverable 1 - Ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026

  • Support and project manage the creation of the Audience Insights Ecosystem, bringing together 4 to 7 core pilot markets, arranging 2  kickoff meetings, listening tours (1 for each pilot market, consisting of 7 to 15 interviews per market), and drafting the insights plans for each pilot market in partnership with and with support from the rest of the Audience and Market Insights team, including the High-Value Audience Manager, Mass Manager, and Chief of Audience and Market Insights.

KPIs:

  • Completion of all pilot market listening tours.
  • Drafting of insights plans for each pilot market.

(Both KPIs done in partnership with the rest of the Audience and Market Insights team, including the High-Value Audience Manager, Mass Manager, and Chief of Audience and Market Insights).

Deliverable 2: Ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026.

  • Contribute to research planning (including market selection, questionnaire amendments, and vendor liaison), insights identification (lead analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insights-to-action facilitation (organization, preparation, and facilitation of working sessions with end users of the research). This will be done under the supervision of, in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager.

KPIs:

  • Produce material for and conduct 3 to 5 working sessions with participating markets.
  • Deliver 3 to 5 implications grids with clear actions for each team.
  • Validate and customize research findings in the High-Value Audience Brand Tracker for regional and local market needs.

Deliverable 3: Ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026.

  • Contribute to the yearly listening tour and insights plan to support the Corporate Partnerships team in PFP with relevant audience insight. Run select relevant projects (including methodology selection, market selection, and liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops, as relevant). This will be done under the supervision of, and in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager.

KPIs:

  • Completion of the yearly listening tour with 7 to 15 members for the PFP Corporate Partnerships team, in partnership with the High-Value Audience Manager.
  • Drafting of the insights plan for the PFP Corporate Partnerships team under the supervision of the High-Value Audience Manager.
  • Running of surveys with existing and prospective corporate partners, providing slight modifications in the script as needed, and providing quarterly analysis on new completes.
  • Potential running of 1 other project, including methodology selection, market selection, liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops as relevant.

Deliverable 4: Ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026.

  • Contribute to the yearly listening tour and insights plan to support the Major Donors team in PFP with relevant audience insight. Run select relevant projects (including methodology selection, market selection, and liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops, as relevant). This will be done under the supervision of, and in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager.

KPIs:

  • Completion of the yearly listening tour with 5 to 7 members for the PFP Major Donors team, in partnership with the High-Value Audience Manager.
  • Drafting of the insights plan for the PFP Major Donors team under the supervision of the High-Value Audience Manager.
  • Creation and curation of a set of standard questions to train our Major Donors relationship managers to ask when they conduct interviews/conversations with partners and prospects, providing understanding of their perceptions on key topics of interest, donor motivations, and perceptions of UNICEF.
  • Running analysis in the AI qualitative analysis tool Quallie to produce a quarterly report on UHWNIs perceptions of partnerships, grant making, and UNICEF.
  • Potential running of 1 other project, including methodology selection, market selection, and liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops, as relevant.

Deliverable 5: Ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026.

  • Contribute to the yearly listening tour and insights plan to support the Foundations team in PFP with relevant audience insight. Run select relevant projects (including methodology selection, market selection, and liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops, as relevant). This will be done under the supervision of, and in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager.

KPIs:

  • Completion of the yearly listening tour with 5 to 7 members for the PFP Foundations team, in partnership with the High-Value Audience Manager.
  • Drafting of the insights plan for the PFP Foundations team under the supervision of the High-Value Audience Manager.
  • Running analysis in the AI qualitative analysis tool Quallie to produce a yearly report on foundation leader perceptions of partnerships, grant making, and UNICEF.

Deliverables 6: Ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026

  • Contribute to the yearly listening tour and insights plan to support the PFP Advocacy team with relevant audience insight. Run select relevant projects (including methodology selection, market selection, and liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops, as relevant). This will be done under the supervision of, and in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager.

KPIs:

  • Completion of the yearly listening tour with 5 to 7 members for the PFP Advocacy team, in partnership with the High-Value Audience (HVA) Manager.
  • Drafting of the insights plan for the PFP Advocacy team under the supervision of the High-Value Audience Manager.
  • Potential running of 1 to 2 projects, including methodology selection, market selection, liaising with the selected vendor [if relevant]), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops, as relevant.

Travel:

  • The consultant will be required to make 2 trips to contribute to planning sessions and strategy sessions.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • A first level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or higher), in cultural studies, communications, psychology, marketing, political studies, development studies, or related.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional work experience audience research, insights, and strategy with a focus on reputation & perception research.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and turning data into insights is required.
  • A deep and sophisticated understanding of how to support the application of insights in a multifaceted, global organization to generate meaningful action is required.
  • Experience in navigating multi-stakeholder environments and achieving alignment and consensus is required.
  • Strong command of quantitative, qualitative, and secondary research methodologies, along with full research method neutrality is required.
  • Understanding of private sector fundraising for international organizations is required.
  • Experience conducting research with high-value audiences [corporate leaders, billionaires, and grant decision makers] is required.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an asset.

Remarks:  

Please indicate your all-inclusive (lump sum) fees against the deliverables listed above, including all associated administrative and travel costs (if applicable), in the cover letter. The office selects the individual based on best value for money.

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
