PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT:

This role is being established to increase the capacity of the Audience and Market Insights (AMI) unit to provide reporting, prepare supporting documentation, and develop research summaries for an increasing number of markets and new projects. Five main areas have been identified:

  • Corporate Sector Analyst & Media Trends: Lead an audit of analyst reports from leading, credible firms across the world, leveraging AI to ensure a broad reach of languages, relating to 5 corporate sectors per year [sectors to be confirmed] from the past 12 months from when the analysis starts.  Compile data from the media analysis and corporate sector analyst trends to create 5 corporate trends reports per year.
  • Corporate Partnership Media Measurement Reports: Lead analysis using UNICEF’s Talk Walker seats to measure the impact of corporate brands’ partnerships with UNICEF on media and social media. This includes analyzing 4 to 6 partnerships yearly according to the existing measurement framework [partners to be confirmed].
  • UNICEF Audience-Relevant Thematics: Support the understanding and engagement of high-value, hard-to-reach, or mass audiences by producing 5 to 7 secondary research reports on various relevant topics yearly.  This includes conducting an audit and analysis of existing content, reports, and opinions from the past three years, leveraging AI to ensure a broad reach of languages.
  • UNICEF Partner Research Support: Provide support [analysis, report building, or data processing] across 1 to 2 other research projects within the Audience and Market Insights Team per year.
  • Scale Strategic Media Analytics Framework to Additional Markets: Support the scaling of a framework for markets that enables data-driven diagnosis of media conversations and enables bolder entry into conversations by measuring media conversations in near real-time. This is expected to scale to 1 to 2 markets per year. 

How can you make a difference? 

SCOPE OF WORK:

Working under the supervision of the High Value Audience Market Research Manager, the consultant will be responsible for:

  • Working with the vendor identified for media analysis to produce the secondary research reports described above, and supporting the Audience and Market Insight team in their presentations to markets, both globally and regionally.
  • Using the Talk Walker tool to produce the corporate partnership measurement reports described above, keeping track of data usage, and identifying opportunities across UNICEF to leverage the tool more effectively when relevant. Troubleshooting with the Talk Walker helpdesk when necessary.
  • Supporting the Audience and Market Insights team in analysis and presentation creation relating to the areas described above. High-quality analysis and an engaging narrative of insights are expected to resonate with a diverse group of stakeholders, many of whom may not be familiar with this type of information.
  • Assisting the Audience and Market Insights team in workshops and sessions related to the areas identified above.
  • Supporting the Audience and Market Insights team in leveraging the information gathered from the areas described above.
  • Coaching and upskilling interns on Talk Walker to allow them to provide support in key media analytics projects.

WORK ASSIGNMENTS:

  • Corporate Sector Trends Reports.

DELIVERABLES:  The consultant will submit monthly deliverables throughout the contract period and payments will be processed at the end of each month, upon acceptance of deliverables by the supervisor.

Deliverable 1:  Year 1: ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026; Year 2: ongoing from 1 Dec 2026 to 30 Nov 2027.

  • Lead an audit of analyst reports from credible global firms (in English) from the past 12 months, covering a maximum of five corporate sectors.
  • Liaise with a media analytics agency to refine the media analysis of global coverage (in English) from the past 12 months related to the selected sectors.

KPIs:

  • Developed five PPT reports per year, 1 for each identified sector.
  • Reports should be narrative-led to engage audiences that are not data literate.

Deliverable 2: Year 1: ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026; Year 2: ongoing from 1 Dec 2026 to 30 Nov 2027.

  • Lead in-house analysis using UNICEF’s Talk Walker platform to measure the impact of corporate brand partnerships with UNICEF across media and social media.

KPIs:

  • Analyze and measure 4 to 6 partnerships per year according to the existing measurement framework.
  • Present findings to relevant stakeholders across UNICEF, with an estimated 3 presentations per partnership.

Deliverable 3: Year 1: ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026; Year 2: ongoing from 1 Dec 2026 to 30 Nov 2027.

  • Support the understanding and engagement of high-value, hard-to-reach, and mass audiences by producing 5 to 7 secondary research reports on relevant topics each year.  This includes conducting an audit and analysis of existing content, reports, and opinions from the past 3 years, leveraging AI to ensure a broad language coverage.

KPIs:

  • Develop narrative-driven reports that engage non-data-literate audiences.
  • Deliver 5 to 7 reports per year.

Deliverable 4: Year 1: ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026; Year 2: ongoing from 1 Dec 2026 to 30 Nov 2027.

  • Provide support [analysis, report building, or data processing] for 1 to 2 other research projects within the Audience and Market Insights Team per year.

KPI:

  • Provide support [analysis, report building, or data processing] for 1 to 2 other research projects within the Audience and Market Insights Team per year.

Deliverable 5: Year 1: ongoing from 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026; Year 2: ongoing from 1 Dec 2026 to 30 Nov 2027.

  • Support the scaling of a framework for markets that enables data-driven diagnosis of media conversations and more boldly entering conversations by measuring media conversations in near real-time. Expecting to scale to 1 to 2 markets per year.

KPIs:

  • Arrange meetings with the markets identified for scaling (1 to 2 per year).
  • Assist in the development of the framework to be used.
  • Create taxonomies and filters, and set up the Talk Walker platform to implement the framework and collect the agreed-upon metrics.

Travel:

  • The consultant will be expected to make 2 trips per year to contribute to planning sessions and strategy sessions.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Education:

  • A first level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or higher), in cultural studies, communications, media studies, marketing, political studies, fundraising, or development studies.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience in secondary research, including media analysis and analytics.
  • Prior experience in using media aggregators, including the tool Talk Walker is required.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and turning data into insights is required.
  • Strong command of secondary research methodologies is required.
  • Experience and fluency with Boolean search terms is required.
  • Experience in setting up measurement frameworks is required.
  • Experience in desk research and literature reviews is required.
  • Experience in the area of partnerships, fundraising and sponsorship is required.
  • Experience working in an international environment is desirable.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an asset.

Remarks:  

Please indicate your all-inclusive (lump sum) fees against the deliverables listed above, including all associated administrative and travel costs (if applicable), in the cover letter. The office selects the individual based on best value for money.

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
