For every child, the right to oportunity
The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does — in programs, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to children’s rights into action. For UNICEF, equity means that all children have an opportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential, without discrimination, bias or favoritism. To the degree that any child has an unequal chance in life — in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions — her or his rights are violated. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, education and protection of a society’s most disadvantaged citizens — addressing inequity — not only will give all children the opportunity to fulfill their potential but also will lead to sustained growth and stability of countries. This is why the focus on equity is so vital. It accelerates progress towards realizing the human rights of all children, which is the universal mandate of UNICEF, as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while also supporting the equitable development of nations.
How can you make a difference?
Many local and international civil society organizations, foundations and diaspora-led entities have successfully engaged in private sector fundraising across Europe and Central Asia. Diaspora communities and Philanthropists from the region have continuously contributed to their countries of origin, and beyond, through various philanthropic initiatives, remittances and development projects. The Regional Office is looking to pursue engagement with Philanthropists and diaspora communities, alongside foundations, to support Country Offices in operationalizing and scaling up partnerships. The Regional Office recognizes the potential of Philanthropists, Foundations and diaspora communities to contribute to the unfinished child rights agenda across Europe and Central Asia through different means and forms, particularly in addressing critical priorities including mental health challenges among children and adolescents, meeting the needs of refugee and migrant children, ensuring children's equitable access to justice, combating violence against children, and supporting inclusive education and child protection systems. This TOR will serve to advance these and underlying goals to mobilize and fundraise resources for children across the region.
The purpose of this consultancy is to support UNICEF Europe and Central Asia Regional Office (ECARO) in mobilizing resources from the private sector with a focus on major donors and diaspora, while also supporting broader engagement with foundations (primarily HQed outside country of origin) and key influencers. Under the guidance of the Partnerships Manager, and in close consultation with Senior Management of ECARO and Country Offices, the Consultant will be responsible for the overall development, planning and implementation of the strategy for fundraising and diaspora engagement, in line with UNICEF's global private sector strategy.
