For every child, the right to Health 

Under the direct supervision of Chief of Field Office for North Area, and overall technical guidance from the Country Office Chief of Social and Behavior Change, the consultant will produce the deliverables below to facilitate quality implementation of, and reporting on, SBC contributions in the MCCT+ and the overall UNICEF Sudan crisis response plan for River Nile and Northern States.
 
Specific objectives include:
• Provide tailored SBC support to UNICEF MCCT+ programme cycles and the design and development of SBC outreach campaigns, with specific focus on promoting the importance of the integration of MCCT+ programmatic messaging for the first 1000 days of child life care and implementing the projects’ Social and Behaviour Change Strategy and Social Risk Management Framework.
• Design, plan and implement SBC activities that are backed by social and behavioural evidence and strong engagement and participation mechanisms, with focus on social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) and community engagement (CE) for the Essential Family Practices (EFPs).
• Provide tailored SBC support to community interventions supporting MCCT+ and SANAD, including Mother Support Groups.
• Provide technical guidance and training to the Health Promoters, media personnel, the frontline workers of the partners and community leaders/ influencers towards the advancement of the Northern Area programme results, including leading technical trainings and supervising community engagement activities, household visits, and other activities.
• Provide tailored SBC support to UNICEF programme sections IDP strategy implementation, with specific focus on IDP and host community social cohesion, as well as response to health emergencies and outbreaks (including polio, waterborne diseases, malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and diarrheal diseases i.e. cholera).
• Generate and utilize rapid and agile research, data, and evidence to inform the design, measurement, and monitoring of SBC programs and outcomes for UNICEF Sudan’s crisis response efforts and to build the evidence base for SBC, including support to collection of socio-behavioural data as part of UNICEF and interagency assessments.
• Support documentation, reporting, and contribution to donor and internal reports on SBC outcomes.
• Support the implementation, monitoring, and follow-up of Programme Documents (PDs) with implementing partners on SBC-related activities, including tracking progress, addressing implementation gaps, and ensuring alignment with approved SBC plans, budgets, and results frameworks towards achieving the objectives above.

How can you make a difference?

The consultancy aims to provide dedicated support to partner capacity development and implementation support to integrated SBC activities that support mother and child essential family practices in the first 1000 days as part of UNICEF’s resilience programs. The consultancy will also support other UNICEF cross-cutting areas including Accountability to Affected Population and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in projects implementation. Minimum requirements:

Education:

Degree in Social/behavioral/communication science other fields with relevant certified trainings in behavioral and social communication

Work Experience:

• Minimum three years of professional experience in SBC or related technical area programme planning and management at the national or international levels, preferably in a developing country.

• Experience working in emergency settings is required.
• Relevant experience in SBCC and Community Engagement for immunization and social cohesion in any UN system organization is considered an asset.
• Ability to work independently and to meet deadlines.
• Fluent English and Arabic required. Sudanese Arabic capability is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate in a multicultural environment.
• Computer literacy and strong familiarity with MS Office package required. Strong competency for MS Excel is considered an asset.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF.
