For every child, the right to Protection

The Child Protection Officer provides professional technical, operational,  administrative assistance and day to day management for UNICEF Turkiye’s programming on Children On the Move (COM), within the Country Programme (2026-2030) from development planning to delivery of results. Incumbent prepares, executes, manages, and implements a variety of technical and administrative programme tasks to facilitate programme development, implementation, programme progress monitoring, evaluating and reporting. The officer will also be responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of programme activities aimed at ensuring that children on the move are systematically identified, protected, and supported in line with child rights standards, UNICEF Turkiye Country Programme Document, UNICEF Global Framework on Children on the Move (2026), RWP with Presidency of Migration Management, Ministry of Family and Social Services (MOFSS) and Ministry of Justice.

In the Türkiye context—characterized by large-scale and complex migration dynamics—COM include refugee and asylum-seeking children, children in regular and irregular migration situations, unaccompanied and separated children (UASC), as well as trafficked and smuggled children.

The position will play a critical role in bridging migration governance and child protection systems, ensuring that children on the move are effectively integrated into national child protection structures. This includes strengthening case management, guardianship, referral mechanisms, and alternative care systems, while promoting a continuum of care from identification to durable solutions through enhanced cross-sectoral coordination with key counterparts such as PMM, MoFSS, law enforcement, and the justice sector.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, and any other related fields.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of two years of professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas is required.
  • Skills: Child protection expertise, programme planning, results-based management, monitoring evaluation, stakeholder engagement, capacity building.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.

Desirables:

  • Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
  • A university or advanced degree in law including international refugee law, international humanitarian law is an asset.
  • Experience in refugee and migrant protection would be considered an asset.
  • Relevant experience in programme development in child protection related areas in a UN system agency or organization, is considered as an asset.
  • Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is an added advantage.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
