For every child, a bright future

The Global Programme Division (GPD) leads UNICEF's global programme agenda, providing technical leadership, policy guidance, quality assurance, and support to country and regional offices across UNICEF's programme priorities. Through its Global Practices, Centres of Excellence, and cross-sectoral teams, GPD helps countries design, implement, monitor, and scale high-impact programmes that advance results for children. Within GPD, the Programme Strategy and Coordination (PSC) Hub plays a central role in strengthening division-wide performance management, planning, monitoring, reporting, analytics, and organizational effectiveness. The Hub helps ensure that GPD's global support functions operate efficiently, are informed by evidence, and continuously improve to meet country needs.

A key part of this work is REACH, UNICEF's corporate platform for managing, coordinating, and monitoring technical assistance provided by GPD to country and regional offices. REACH helps connect country demand with technical expertise, track the delivery of support, generate performance insights, and strengthen accountability and learning across the organization. As REACH continues to evolve and expand, the PSC Hub is strengthening its performance management function to ensure robust monitoring, high-quality data, effective reporting, and continuous improvement. We are seeking a motivated and analytical intern to support this effort through process development, data analytics, dashboarding, and performance reporting.

How can you make a difference?

The purpose of this internship is to support the Programme Strategy and Coordination (PSC) Hub within UNICEF's Global Programme Division in strengthening performance management for REACH. The selected candidate will contribute to the development and documentation of workflows and business processes, management and analysis of performance data, and preparation of dashboards, metrics, visualizations, and reporting products that support oversight, accountability, and continuous improvement.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the center of UNICEF's global programme support architecture, contributing to a corporate platform that connects technical expertise with programme implementation around the world. The selected candidate will gain practical experience in performance management, data analytics, business process improvement, organizational reporting, and digital transformation while working with colleagues across headquarters, regional offices, and country offices.

Key Functions and Responsibilities

  • Support the development and documentation of REACH workflows, business processes, guidance notes, and standard operating procedures.
  • Compile, clean, validate, organize, and maintain REACH data used for performance monitoring and reporting.
  • Develop and regularly update dashboards, scorecards, graphs, and other visual products covering agreed performance indicators and operational metrics.
  • Support the preparation of routine and ad hoc analyses, presentations, briefing materials, and management reports for management review and decision-making.
  • Monitor data completeness, quality, timeliness, and consistency, and follow up with relevant focal points to address identified gaps.
  • Assist in identifying trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement, translating data and findings into clear, practical, and actionable insights.
  • Maintain organized records of methodologies, indicator definitions, data sources, dashboards, and reporting products to ensure consistency and accessibility of information.
  • Collaborate with PSC Hub colleagues, REACH focal points, and other GPD teams to support performance monitoring and reporting activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of visual products, presentations, and communications materials that support performance reporting and knowledge sharing across teams.
  • Undertake other related tasks required to support the PSC Hub's performance management work.

Expected Outputs

  • Documented REACH workflows, process maps, and supporting guidance materials.
  • An organized and regularly updated set of REACH performance data and indicator definitions.
  • Regularly updated dashboards, graphs, scorecards, and key performance metrics.
  • Data quality checks and concise analyses of trends, bottlenecks, and performance issues.
  • Inputs to reports, presentations, and briefing materials for PSC Hub and GPD management.

Learning benefits for the intern:

  • Work closely with technical, programme, and management colleagues across UNICEF's global network.
  • Strengthen analytical, communication, problem-solving, and project management skills in a dynamic international environment.
  • Build experience highly relevant to careers in international development, monitoring and evaluation, public policy, data analytics, organizational effectiveness, and programme management.
