The aim of the internship is, on the one hand, to empower representatives of marginalized groups to further seek employment on the open labor market, and on the other hand to improve diversity within the UN System. The need for increased diversity was confirmed including during the latest 2019 internal UN Moldova Diversity and Equality survey, that identified underrepresentation of people from several groups among the UN staff, including persons with disabilities, Roma and other ethnic or linguistic minorities.
The initiative foresees that persons belonging to marginalized groups join as interns for a 4 - 6 months part-time assignment in different programs and projects of UN agencies, being guided by a mentor (staff member of the UN Agency). The assigned tasks in administration, operations, procurement, logistical, communications or programming areas usually differ and grow in their complexity, reflecting also the interns’ specific learning, personal and professional development needs.
