How can you make a difference?

The Child Protection Officer provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for the child protection programmes/projects through the application of theoretical and technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing, and presenting technical programme information while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support the development and formulation of the Child Protection Programme within the Country Programme. The efficiency and efficacy of support provided by the Child Protection Officer to programme preparation, planning and implementation contributes to the achievement of sustainable results to create a protective environment for children against harm and all forms of violence, and ensures their survival, development and wellbeing in society. Success in child protection programmes and projects in turn contributes to maintaining and enhancing the credibility and ability of UNICEF to provide programme services for mothers and children that promote greater social equality in the country.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: A completed first level university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) in one of the following fields is required: international development, social work, human rights, psychology, sociology, or another relevant social science field.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of one year of professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas is required.
  • Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) principles and the ability to promote safeguarding standards in programme implementation, ensuring protection from sexual exploitation and abuse.
    Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships and collaborate effectively with government counterparts, NGOs, donors, UN agencies, and other partners.
    Experience in programme monitoring and evaluation, including tracking progress, assessing results, and supporting evidence-based decision-making.
    Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to collect, interpret, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information to inform programme planning and reporting.
    Experience preparing donor reports, ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality narrative and programme documentation in line with donor requirements.
    Capacity to conduct risk analysis by identifying potential risks, assessing their impact, and supporting mitigation measures, including emergency preparedness and programme continuity.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in Spanish is required. Intermediate level of English is required.

Desirables:

  • Language: Proficiency in English is desirable. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian) is desirable.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset and in emergency context.
  • Experience working within the United Nations is considered a strong asset. 
  • Experience working in rural and/or indigenous contexts of Venezuela is a strong asset
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.

This position has been assessed as an elevated risk role for Child Safeguarding purposes as it is either a role with direct contact with children, a role that works directly with identifiable children's data, a safeguarding response role, or an assessed risk role.
