In the Pacific we work in Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu: These 14 Pacific island countries are home to 2.3 million people, including 1.2 million children and youth, living on more than 660 islands and atolls stretching across 17.2 million square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean, an area comparable to the combined size of the United States of America and Canada. Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu are classified as Fragile States according to World Bank/OECD criteria.

How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision and guidance of the Chief of the UNICEF Pacific Field Office in the Solomon Islands, and with technical support from operations staff in the UNICEF Pacific Multi-Country Office in Fiji, the Administrative Associate is responsible for executing a broad variety of procedural and specialized administrative tasks for the respective section requiring in-depth knowledge of UNICEF administrative procedures, processes and policies.
Summary of key functions/accountabilities:
- Budgeting for operations and monitoring funds use;
- Human Resources management support;
- Office Planning
- Following up on procurement conducted by UNICEF and supporting quotations for low value procurements in Solomon Islands;
- Calendar/Meetings/Correspondence Management;
- Event/Logistics Support;
- Responsible use of petty cash, and prepaid cards
- Travel Management
- Invoice processing and tracking to ensure timely payments
- Managing Supplies/Equipment for UNICEF Field Office in Solomon Islands,
- Warehouse organization and management
- Maintain and update a system which monitors the absence of staff.
- Other general administrative tasks as required to ensure staff have a clean, well-managed, work place.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Education: Completed secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the field of work.
- Experience: A minimum of 6 years of relevant administrative or clerical work experience.
- Reasonable proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required
- Language: Fluency in English, and knowledge of a local language will be an asset.
