How can you make a difference? 

The Supply and Logistics Officer reports to the Supply and Logistics Manager as per the Zambia Country Office set-up for supervision and guidance.  The Supply and Logistics Officer provides technical and operational support as per the country office set-up and is responsible for managing the supply chains of the Zambia country office, with a particular focus on supporting the provision of Procurement Services to development partners.

The supply chain operations include planning, procurement, contracting, customs clearance, warehousing, in-country transport, and distribution, as well as monitoring of supplies, services and construction works. The incumbent supports management collaboration with programmes in defining supply interventions to meet programmatic needs and achieve results for children and provides technical and advisory support to the government, national systems, and partners on supply chain management.

The Supply and Logistics Officer will cover the transactional work and engagement with current (and potential) Procurement Services partners and logistics providers. Zambia has quite a large UNICEF Procurement Services portfolio (ranked 19th globally in 2020-24 in value terms). The office especially services the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supply Agency (ZAMMSA) and the Ministry of Health. UNICEF Zambia acts as procurement agent for large WB-funded projects. The country is benefitting from Cold Chain Equipment Optimization Platform (CCEOP) support and is one of the pilot countries for solar electrification of health facilities, and the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines (GPACCM). The incumbent will use his/her technical knowledge and specialized experience to drive the implementation of tools and structured approaches to analyze and solve national supply chain problems within the Zambia Health System Strengthening agenda as relevant to UNICEF programmes.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

A university degree is required in Business Administration, Management, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Contract/Commercial Law, International Development, Health, or related social science field. Relevant experience in lieu of the required education can be acceptable.

Work Experience: 

  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience, at the national and international levels, in supply, logistics, procurement, contracting, administration and/or other directly related technical fields is required.
  • Understanding of development and humanitarian work.
  • Emergency experience an advantage.
  • Health supply chain management experience an advantage.

Language Requirements: 

Fluency in English is required.

Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
