Consultancy 6 months: Consultancy for School Connectivity Demand Estimation for Africa, remote in Switzerland
Giga’s mission is to support governments to connect all schools in the world by 2030, so children and young people can have access to information, opportunity, and choice. Giga and UNICEF Supply Division are developing a market acceleration strategy to help African governments to scale up the number of schools that they connect to the internet through public procurement processes. This consultancy will assist UNICEF in estimating the current demand for school connectivity from African governments, as well as forecasting the potential demand for this service within the next five years. The consultant will use diverse datasets to produce estimates for the demand of school connectivity in the continent: a) school location and connectivity status data collected by Giga, b) governments’ public budgets on allocations and commitments for digital projects, c) concessional loans and grants from international financial institutions, d) inputs from UNICEF Supply Division demand forecasting exercises, e) interviews and consultations with UNICEF country offices and government officials.

UNICEF has set ambitious goals in its 2022-2025 Strategic Plan to accelerate progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP), based in Geneva, supports this mission by maximizing UNICEF's private sector fundraising, partnerships, and engagement activities, including work with National Committees, regional and country offices, and other HQ Divisions. The global Innovative Financing for Children (IF4C) initiative is central to these goals, helping address complex global challenges like climate change and disasters that disproportionately affect the most vulnerable children and adolescents. The PFP IF4C team is tasked with finding innovative alternative financing and funding solutions and partnerships to accelerate progress towards the SDGs for children by 2030. This is achieved through identifying, capacitating, driving, and scaling innovative approaches to financing and investing in children across a diverse spectrum of public and private sector capital. The Strategy, Business & Partnerships Consultant will be instrumental in supporting these efforts.

The Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) aims to achieve results for children by maximizing UNICEF's private fundraising and advocacy around the world. To carry out this mission, PFP coordinates fundraising activities and private sector partnerships with offices in over 50 countries. The global team operates to support and enable countries in their fundraising, and this role works within that approach to support and develop the capabilities of teams, as well as supporting or leading the development of relevant global strategies. Individual Giving is one of UNICEF’s most critical sources of revenue and the PFP Individual Giving team, which this role would be part of, focuses on supporting countries to grow their individual giving revenue. The PFP Individual Giving team based in Geneva is a lead participant in the Supporter Engagement Strategy, which aims to increase the global acquisition and engagement of UNICEF's diverse supporter base, including donors, advocates, and volunteers. A key part of the strategy is to replace the incumbent CRM systems currently in place in 21 country offices with Salesforce-based technology. The role of Marketing Cloud Specialist will be instrumental in working with markets to redefine their fundraising approach and develop Marketing Cloud to that benefit.
