The role is responsible for ensuring the effective design, implementation, monitoring, and strategic oversight of ECW’s country-level investments, while promoting coherence across country portfolios, governance processes, and technical operations. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the postholder will contribute to ECW’s mission to deliver quality education in emergencies and protracted crises.

The consultancy will contribute to improving the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of MLE teaching and learning through the review and revision of the MLE curriculum, instructional materials, teacher support resources, and student learning materials. It will ensure that these materials are aligned with the updated national curriculum, the Early Grade Learning (EGL) approach, and the learning needs of Indigenous children. Specifically, the consultant will provide technical support in the following areas: Firstly, the syllabi for three subjects—Vernacular Language (L1), Social Studies, and Science—for the first three grades of primary school will be reviewed and adapted to ensure alignment with Early Grade Learning (EGL) methodologies. The revised syllabi will serve as the foundation for the subsequent revision of related teaching and learning materials Secondly, the MLE learning materials for the same three subjects in the first three grades of primary school will be reviewed and revised to ensure that they are aligned with indigenous knowledge and cultural contexts, and that they incorporate gender-responsive education, disability inclusion, and 21st-century skills. Finally, building on the above two activities, the Teacher Guides for MLE Kreung teachers in the first three grades of primary school will be reviewed and revised for three subjects: Vernacular Language (L1), Social Studies, and Science.

The Security Specialist advises and supports the Representative, Chief Field Office or Country Security Manager in fulfilling security duties and responsibilities under the UNSMS and UNICEF security policies. This role contributes to UNICEF’s mandate by enabling principled and timely delivery within acceptable levels of risk through security risk analysis, planning, preparedness, access support, incident management and implementation of appropriate risk mitigation measures. In Nairobi, the Security Specialist leads and manages a team of national security professionals to provide integrated, scalable, coordinated and responsive security support across all UNICEF offices in Nairobi, meeting the needs arising from UNICEF’s growing operational footprint, staff presence, premises, missions, events and regional programme support requirements. The Security Specialist manages and supports security activities for all UNICEF Nairobi offices and designated locations, in coordination with UNDSS, the Security Cell, other UNSMS actors and relevant partners, including under the Saving Lives Together framework.
