UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, advocacy

Since 1952, UNICEF has been working closely with the government of Jordan and other partners - promoting, protecting, meeting and reporting on the rights of children in the country. UNICEF’s programme in 3ordan works to strengthen systems with a goal of reaching all vulnerable children. To achieve this, UNICEF works with the public and private sector, as well as youth-led groups, civil society, and academic institutions to build national capacity and resilience. UNICEF Jordan is looking for an intern with excellent communication skills to support our advocacy and external communications for children’s rights.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Communications (Media and Advocacy) Officer, the intern will support the media and advocacy team in strengthening UNICEF’s external communication and visibility. This includes drafting and editing press releases, media articles, and op-eds that help position UNICEF in the media. The intern will also assist in planning and executing advocacy and visibility events in close coordination with programme colleagues—this includes preparing talking points, briefs, concept notes, and post-event reports. In addition, the intern will contribute to gathering and writing content that highlights the impact of UNICEF’s work to support donor engagement and external communication.

The objectives of this internship are:

  • Strengthen UNICEF Jordan’s external communication and public advocacy efforts. By supporting the development of compelling content, media engagement, and visibility activities, the intern will contribute to amplifying UNICEF’s voice and influence on issues affecting children and young people in Jordan.
  • Enhance organizational capacity to engage media and the public on child rights. The intern will support systems and tools that improve how UNICEF Jordan communicates with journalists, donors, partners, and the public — including media lists, story development, and advocacy moments.
  • Provide meaningful learning opportunities for young professionals in development communication. The internship aims to nurture future communication and advocacy professionals by offering hands-on experience in a dynamic UN setting, with exposure to strategic planning, content creation, and media relations.

Some specifics tasks and activities for the duration of your internship are included but not limited to below:

  • Write stories and articles that showcase the impact of UNICEF’s programmes on children, young people, and their families, particularly in connection with key moments on the advocacy and media calendar.
  • Support the research and development of communications products that demonstrate programme impact.
  • Assist in planning and organizing events in collaboration with the Communication team, programme colleagues, and external partners.
  • Support the implementation of the media engagement plan, including tracking progress, coordinating outreach, and supporting media relations.
  • Coordinate closely with the advocacy lead, programme sections, and senior management to ensure alignment and coherence across the office’s public advocacy strategy and action plans.
  • Ensure all communication outputs follow UNICEF’s communication guidelines, branding standards, and core values.
  • Enhance Internal Communication Support
