How can you make a difference? 

To achieve the above-mentioned objectives, UNICEF CAR is seeking to recruit a talented and meticulous copy-editor. The primary purpose of this recruitment is to ensure that the stories collected from the field are presented in the most impactful and professional manner. The copy-editor will play a crucial role in our communication strategy by:

  1. Enhancing Story Quality:
  • Reviewing and refining stories to ensure they are clear, compelling, and error-free.
  • Ensuring that each story effectively conveys the intended message and resonates with the target audience.
  • Maintaining a high standard of writing that reflects the dignity and resilience of the children and communities in CAR.
  1. Consistency and Accuracy:
  • Ensuring consistency in tone, style, and terminology across all stories and reports.
  • Verifying facts and data to maintain the credibility and reliability of our communications.
  • Adhering to UNICEF’s guidelines and ethical standards in all written materials.

DELIVERABLES

  • Within the scope of work and during this consultancy, the consultant will be asked to review human interest stories produced by the C&A team. The consultant might be asked to review other type of products such as reports, snapshots, social media workplans/campaigns and others.

DELIVERY TIMELINE

  • Overall, for a document ranging between 600 -1000 words, the consultant will take a maximum of two (2) working days per assignment to complete the work.
  • This timeline is designed to balance the need for thorough, high-quality editing with the imperative for speed and efficiency. This approach ensures that UNICEF CAR can swiftly share impactful stories that highlight the dignity and resilience of children in CAR, thereby enhancing its communication and advocacy efforts.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • An advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in social sciences, international development, journalism, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in storytelling, advocacy, research, and communications, particularly in the context of child rights.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset. 
  • Proven experience in storytelling, advocacy, research, and communications, particularly in the context of child rights.
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian and development contexts is important and familiarity with the issues in the African region is desirable.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Fluency in French & English is a must.

Competitive Selection Criteria :

A) Technical Evaluation (maximum 75 Points)

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
