The purpose of this consultancy is to facilitate the work of the Africa/MENA team (PPD), strengthening of the team members capacities and use of the knowledge management. This would allow UNICEF’s better positioning of children in intergovernmental and multilateral fora and negotiations as well as the engagement with governments and public institutions A key premise for PPD is that the engagement with countries should be based on multiple levels of partnerships, including around resource mobilization and policy advocacy.

Scope of Work:

PPD Africa/MENA manages the Strategic Partnership with Africa and MENA Missions to the UN in New York, in close communication and consultation with UNICEF country offices, regional offices, the other teams within the Public Partnership Division and other programme divisions in UNICEF Head Quarters. Therefore, the Knowledge Management Consultant will support the overall knowledge management in relation to the partnership with the Africa/MENA missions in New York, on the inward and outward facing media, including mainly the UNISON.  Main tasks include:

  1. Conduct a comprehensive mapping of PPD Africa MENA’s internal Share point to identify documents that are relevant for linking to UNISON (Salesforce).
  2. Design and deliver customized training sessions for Africa MENA team members on how to use UNISON, and ensure that the team feels comfortable and proficient in navigating the platform.
  3. Collaborate with the team members to plan and use the knowledge management platforms (including reflecting on resources and income) updating UNISON/Salesforce and creating interactive dashboards showcasing Africa MENA's support for mobilizing RR.
  4. Connect with other teams in PPD to discover the most effective strategies/best practices in using UNISON and knowledge management. Assist the Africa MENA team in implementing and building on these identified best practices.

The work will entail a mix of desk research and stakeholder engagement, team members capacity building and interest generation, as well as monitoring, consolidation and reporting on opportunities, initiatives and campaigns, guidance on the way forward and reporting.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • An advanced university degree in knowledge/information management, international relations, communications, business administration, or another related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree, with an additional 2 years of relevant professional work experience will be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • Certification/knowledge in Salesforce (UNISON) is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible work experience in business analysis, knowledge management, planning and implementation, resource mobilization, partnership, and donor coordination initiatives is  required.
  • Experience in reporting, planning and coordination and data processing is a strong asset. 
  • Fluency in verbal and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset. 

Other Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external partners is required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under time pressure with strict attention to detail is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, (both written and oral) to translate complicated business requirements into technical based language, and vice versa is required.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving mindset is an asset.
  • Passionate and energetic team member with a genuine interest in working in the international aid and development sector is an asset.

This is a pro bono contract and only $1 will be paid. The deliverables can be completed remotely from any location across the globe. If there is a need for business travel, the travel costs will be covered by UNICEF separately.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
