The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) within the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy comprises Web, Social Media and Marketing teams working together to create compelling public-facing content and to provide digital services within the organization. Through multiple platforms and in multiple languages, DSS draws attention to the many facets of UNICEF’s work, encouraging public support, participation and action, as well as ensuring greater transparency and accountability. Web stories, blog entries, photo essays, Facebook posts, Instagram campaigns, Whatsapp updates and other digital content for distribution via UNICEF.org, YouTube, news media and other outlets and platforms all are a part of our digital storytelling.

The Language Team, which is part of the Social Media Team, is an integral part of this process. Planning, executing and managing the UNICEF channels at our disposal, the team leads channel strategies and deployment in Arabic, Chinese, French and Spanish to further UNICEF’s messaging and organizational priorities. By measuring and testing our efforts, we use data and analytics to inform content and engagement choices.

How can you make a difference? 

The Digital Strategy Section in the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy is seeking to build a roster of candidates for the digital producer consultancy position to support across a variety of editorial tasks for UNICEF’s global websites and social media channels (including but not limited to Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, WhatsApp and LinkedIn) in Arabic, French and Spanish.

The Language Digital Producer Consultants will work closely with and under the supervision of Digital Communication Officers and/or Specialists in the global Digital Strategy Section. 

Expected Results:

  • Assist in the project management of web editorial content, including review and updates to the website.
  • Assist with translation management and review of social media and web content and assets.
  • Help proofread and check social media and digital content for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Occasionally work with the graphic designer as needed to produce visuals and infographics in multiple languages.
  • Support digital and social media editorial planning and processes with relevant colleagues, including the digital marketing team.
  • Assist with scheduling social media content.
  • Help localize and create original content following trends, such as vertical videos.
  • Assist with the monitoring and moderation of social media channels when relevant.
  • Perform other digital communication and content duties as required and agreed upon.

Description of the Assignment/Scope of Work:

  1. Web deliverables

Global web content production on children impacted by humanitarian crises, advocacy priorities and other child rights moments 

  • Assist in the project management of web editorial content, including translation management, proofread, review, draft, produce and update web content for accuracy of the global UNICEF French/Spanish/Arabic website. 
  • Support digital editorial planning and processes with relevant colleagues with cleaning broken links and archiving old pages, 1 monthly report.
  • Perform other web communication and content duties related to children’s rights, UNICEF's priorities and campaigns as required and agreed upon.
  1. Social media deliverables

Global social media content production on children impacted by humanitarian crises, advocacy priorities and other child rights moments 

  • Work with various Social Media Team leads to review social media packs, including content and assets, upload to UNICEF’s Digital Asset Managament System (Weshare) as needed and schedule content for advocacy priorities, emergencies, child rights and other communication moments.
  • Work with various Social Media Team leads to develop, draft, proofread, localize and schedule, minimum 5 per week social media posts across all channels for UNICEF’s global channels in Arabic, French and Spanish - this includes the production of visuals as needed - including child rights and emergencies.
  • Support in reviewing ads (photography, video, copy) or other social media content as needed including gathering regional content/visuals.
  • Develop and produce 1 social media-first vertical video for the global social media channels in multiple languages. This will include up to two rounds of feedback on the idea. Once production starts, there will be up to three rounds of feedback on the final product. Videos should range in length from 30-90 seconds. 
  • Spend maximum two hours a week supporting moderation of content of global social media channels, flagging risks and content/conversations for engagement/amplification. 
  • Support quantitative and qualitative analysis of social media content performance, including, inputting into two digital reports and, as required, activation reports. 
  • Perform other social media communication and content duties as required and agreed upon including working a few hours on occasional weekends on moderation and content support.

Duty Station

  • Remote based/part time, must be able to overlap at least 4 hours with New York colleagues

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as communications, marketing, journalism, languages or similar. 
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience developing and executing social media strategies, including creating social media content. 
  • Experience managing web content, using CMS, Drupal experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong copy-editing skills.
  • In addition to English, fluency in one or two of the following languages is required: Arabic, French, Spanish. Other UN languages an asset.
  • Ability to translate technical and nuanced information into clear, emotional, and engaging content for broad public audiences.
  • Extensive experience with social media platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads.
  • Strong creative disposition and understanding of what’s ‘shareable’ online.
  • Experience using social media management, audience and influencer research, productivity, collaboration and project management tools, such as Talkwalker, Hootsuite, Emplify and others.
  • Demonstrated understanding of rights-based messaging that respects the dignity and agency of the children UNICEF supports.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in reporting on quantitative and qualitative social analytics.
  • Project management experience in a multilingual environment is a plus.
  • An organized and agile team player with high attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Comfortable working independently with flexible hours and managing one’s own time and responsibilities.
  • Good understanding of world affairs, current events and development is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of digital marketing and fundraising strategies is a plus.
  • Experience in working for the UN, UNICEF or with International NGOs or global organizations is a plus.

Assessment Criteria (applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria):

Each Proposal will be evaluated against a weight allocation of 80% for the technical proposals and 20% for the financial proposal.  The total maximum obtainable is 100 points.  The minimum acceptable technical score is 49.

Candidates are requested to submit their Financial Proposal form and it will be evaluated based on the overall financial offer.

HEALTH INSURANCE

The Consultant is fully responsible for arranging, at their own expense, such life, health, and other forms of insurance covering the term of the Contract as he or she considers appropriate. The Consultant is not eligible to participate in the life or health insurance schemes available to UNICEF and United Nations staff members.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

IMPORTANT – G4 Visa is only valid if the consultant will reside within the tri-state area during the duration of the assignment. It is illegal to apply and obtain a visa for consultants who do not intend to reside within the tri-state area during the duration of the consultancy assignment.

FEE

Requests for services under an individual contract requires that the consultant indicates their all- inclusive fees (including lump sum travel and subsistence costs, as applicable) for the services to be provided.

When submitting their bid, the consultant is also advised to take into consideration as part of their bid for the assignment the cost of health insurance and/or photographic, video-graphic equipment if such equipment is needed to complete the deliverables of the assignment.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
