How can you make a difference? 

Objective of the assignment:

Ensure that the UN House building and its facilities are maintained in a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing condition. Minimize downtime and disruptions caused by maintenance activities. Prolong the lifespan of building components and systems through regular maintenance. Adhere to all relevant safety regulations and standards. Ensure that all maintenance activities are performed in a manner that minimizes risks to occupants and workers.

This consultancy is performed for the UN House, shared between several UN Agencies and Council of Europe.

Scope of Work:

The expected results under this ToR include but are not limited to:

  • Electrical Maintenance: Regular inspection and minor repairs of electrical systems, including lighting, wiring, and electrical panels. Clean and repair air conditioning and heating systems.
  • Plumbing Maintenance: Maintenance of plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and drainage systems.
  • HVAC Maintenance: Regular servicing of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure optimal performance. Check, clean and refuel generator.
  • Structural Maintenance: Repair and upkeep of the building’s structural elements, such as walls, roofs, and foundations. Minor repairs to floors, stairs, and piping as needed. Repair and paint doors, windows, walls, ceilings, roofs, and other parts of the building.
  • General Maintenance: Routine tasks such as painting, carpentry, and minor repairs to fixtures and fittings.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Upkeep of outdoor areas, including landscaping, walkways, and parking lots. Clean garden and courtyard using provided equipment, removing leaves, snow, and clearing sewage system. Ensure mechanical equipment is in working order and fixed as necessary.

Preventive Maintenance which includes routine inspections and cleaning services.

Guarantee mechanical equipment effective and efficient operation.(lawn mower, leaf blower, snow blower, chipper, etc.)

 

Guarantee air conditioning and heating systems effective and efficient operation.

 

Paint doors, windows frames, walls, ceilings, roofs, and other parts of the building.

 

Check, clean and refuel generator.

 

Clean garden and courtyard (removing leaves, snow, and clearing sewage system). UNICEF will provide the corresponding equipment for this purpose.

Corrective Maintenance which includes taking immediate action to re-establish any service or part in the premises.

Minor electrical repairs in common areas and offices.

 

Minor repairs to floors, stairs, and piping as needed.

Repair mechanical equipment.

 

Repair air conditioning and heating systems.

As required

Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, including dates, tasks performed, and any issues identified.

 

Provide monthly reports to manager on the status of maintenance activities and any recommendations for improvements.

 

Clear and detailed information of all maintenance actions performed in the office.

 

Accurate information related to premises maintenance status and clear guidance to schedule medium and major maintenance actions according to the current situation of equipment and premises.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum Qualifications required:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a handyman.
  • Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems.
  • Good communication ability.
  • Well-organized and apt at problem-solving.
  • Attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor.
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions.

Languages:

  • Fluency in Romanian is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
