JOB GRADE FACTORS

  • Report to Communication Specialist (Level 3) in a medium-size country office
  • Operate in the context of a medium-sized country office.
  • Accountable for professional technical support for communication programme implementation.
  • Work under the close supervision of the Communication Specialist. The supervisor defines the parameters of assignments and outlines approaches to problem areas. Carry out research to collect facts and data analysis in accordance with the established procedures and methodology. Work is reviewed while in progress, and upon completion.
  • Incumbent operates within rules and regulations, and makes technical recommendations to supervisor when a
  • deviation from guidelines/procedures is required.

How can you make a difference? 

1. Communication materials and activities delivery and follow up Contribute to the production of communication products and materials

    • Participate to the communication tasks implementation in the country plan as assigned.
    • Maintain an up-to-date documentation centre for communication materials including publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.
    • Take photographs, reels and videos covering events and field visit as needed.

2.       Media relations

Provide assistance in developing, drafting and maintaining contact information, materials and media outlets covering all media – print, TV, radio, web etc. – in the country, to communicate the story of UNICEF's cooperation to a wider audience.

    • Keep the record of contact list/database. Ensure rapid and accurate information dissemination to the media.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining close collaboration with mass media, as well as with groups and organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of advocacy and communication objectives.
    • Prepare back briefing and visits of media and other special interest groups. Assist in the planning, logistic and administrative arrangements for them.
    • Assist in collaborating with the media through activities such as organizing project site visits, facilitating photo coverage and TV footage and utilizing both web-based and traditional media as appropriate.
  • Support the section in managing UNICEF and child related media coverage in Tunisia and report important and relevant content to supervisor. Maintain a library of coverage (clippings, coverage etc.).
  1. Events and mission logistics

Manage aspects related to logistics, communication and preparation for special events organised by UNICEF or with partners, ceremonies, field visits, and diverse range of activities.

    • Help organize and deliver special events and activities to promote country programme goals.
    • Prepare background communication and promotional materials for briefings and visits and assisting in the planning, logistics and administrative arrangements.
    • Assist in the management of comms and visibility materials during events: banners, roll ups, print, stands.
    • Maintain and update the influencers and partner contact lists/database for the country office.
  1. Operations support

Support supervisor with overall admin and organization matters and all types of clearance processes within the section.

    • Monitor contracts and process required documentation for issuance/extensions with relevant sections.
    • Prepare monitoring and reporting information for supervisor and team on agreed performance indicators to drive more efficient management and accountability for results.

Minimum requirements:

Education

  • Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization.
  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized academic institution in a in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field may replace three years of related work experience. A master’s degree may replace an additional two years.

Work Experience

  • Min 6 years practical professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or journalism.
  • Knowledge of social media and digital is a plus.
  • Events management experience is required.
  • Experience managing communication materials design and print is required.
  • A background/familiarity with humanitarian or NGO work would be a plus.

Language Proficiency

  • Excellent writing skills in Arabic and French and proficient English level is required.
