The Government of State of Eritrea and UNICEF are implementing several water supply, sanitation, and hygiene education projects to contribute to the realization of children’s rights to survival and development in the six Zobas of Eritrea as part of the 2024-26 Country Programme Document. Aligned with SDG6 on WASH, outlined in the 2024-2026 Rolling Workplan, activities include: Construction or rehabilitation of water supply system, National WASH assessment, upgrading WASH service in health care facilities and schools, and raising the awareness of the community on safe sanitation and hygiene practice and other support to Increase equitable and sustainable access to, and use of, safe water and basic sanitation services and improved hygiene.

Scope of Work
- Monitoring and Supervision of Rural Water Supply Projects.
- Support to Government Partners in Project Consolidation.
- Facilitation of Procurement.
- Supervision of the National WASH Assessment (NWA)
- Documentation of Tripartite Meetings for AfDB funding programme
Results/expected outputs:
The Internship will be required to:
- Conduct field visits to project areas in coordination with UNICEF, Ministry and other partners and prepare implementation/progress report after each monitoring trip.
- Monitor the distribution, transportation, warehousing, and delivery of supplies for WASH projects from national, Zoba, and sub Zoba levels to communities.
- Facilitate timely procurement of supplies for WASH projects through Red Sea Cooperation in consultation with concerned ministries.
- Support the establishment of guidelines for sustainability checks and water-safe communities for Rural water supply projects.
- Facilitate timely utilization and liquidation of Direct Cash Transfer (DCT) to Implementing partners.
- Provide supply monitoring reports.
- Regularly document meeting minutes for the tripartite meetings related to the appraisal process of the AfDB-funded WASH programme and track actions to ensure alignment with the given timeline.
- Provide detailed monthly progress reports (including successes, challenges, opportunities, and recommendations) on WASH programme in relation to the work plan.
- Document best practices in the WASH projects for publication in a technical Journal.
- Project document for water supply system design is developed for the identified sites of the AfDB program.
- Provide input to WASH situation reports, field reports, donor updates etc. as and when required.

A university degree in one of the following fields is required: Civil Engineering, sanitary engineering, mechanical engineering or another relevant technical field.

A minimum of two years of professional work experience in WASH-related programs for developing countries is required.

Background/familiarity with Emergency situations.

Fluency in English and another UN language. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.
