UNICEF in the State of Palestine (SoP) works to uphold the rights of children to access services and protection, from early childhood through to adolescence. How can you make a difference? 

Classified by UNICEF as a level 3 emergency, the impact of the crisis beginning in October of 2023, on nutritional status
of children and of pregnant and breastfeeding women has been profound. Under the supervision of the Nutrition
Manager, this position is intended to support the additional emergency nutrition response activities, ensuring
immediate and effective design of interventions while establishing and monitoring evolving needs for UNICEF inputs for
corrective action in Gaza, supporting nutrition supply access and distribution, liaising with partners to ensure quality
interventions, representing UNICEF Nutrition when needed, monitoring, acting as OIC in the absence of the Manager.

Your key functions/accountabilities

Scope of Work:

- Contribute to UNICEF’s emergency nutrition analysis to define overall needs, map partner efforts and critically,
identify of gaps to guide UNICEF response efforts and fulfilment of the Core Commitment for Children (CCC).
- In coordination with partners and other sectors, define and periodically update UNICEF nutrition response (and
when relevant recovery) plan, including main response activities as well as contingency plans as needed. In
doing so, ensure effective cross-sectoral response planning.
- Support the Manager and working with MoH and partners as needed, assist in forecasting supply needs, smooth
pipeline processes and distribution to partners and beneficiaries.
- In line with above, provide technical guidance to office efforts in nutrition emergencies to identify, (contingency)
plan, and respond to specific public health, disease threats by providing office briefings, technical clarification
and messages on the nature of the event.
- Active engagement with the Nutrition Cluster and support in assessments and monitoring of the nutrition
situation. This will include IPC analysis, NIS reviews, rapid assessments and qualitative assessments as
conducted.
- Develop PDs with partners, initiate and oversee roll out of nutrition programming, including monitoring of
budgets and completion of donor reports.
- As required, provide technical support to UNICEF and partners to develop, adapt and share relevant standards,
protocols, guidelines, and training materials for effective nutrition emergency response. Support training as
needed.
- Where possible, plan and participate in field monitoring missions, systematically track and resolve action points
- Oversee emergency nutrition supply chain including pre-positioning of stocks in coordination with UNICEF
Supply/Logistics and partners staff to provide essential kits, drugs, and commodities. Ensure a responsive and
accountable release strategy.
- Provide timely inputs to UNICEF information products related to the response including situation reports.
- Contribute to development of funding appeals, donor reports and project proposals related to the nutrition
emergency response (and recovery).
 
Reporting and work relationships
 
The post will report to the Manager, Nutrition Gaza. Coordination with the office emergency response lead and
additional daily liaison other sector specialists, including social and behavioural change, health and WASH will be
critical.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: nutrition, public health, nutritional
epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health
sciences, nutritional epidemiology, or another health-related science field.
 
Work Experience: 
 
- A minimum of five years of professional experience in a developing country in one or more of the following areas is
required: nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management, or maternal, infant and child health/nutrition
care.
- Experience in health/nutrition programme/project development and management in a UN system agency or
organization is an asset

Language Requirements: 

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)
or a local language is an asset.

Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.

Special Remarks: In the current evolving emergency context, this position will be based in Gaza where medical facilities have been negatively affected and individual chronic and/or serious medical conditions cannot be adequately addressed.
