UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, a better future

UNICEF works to ensure the rights of all children in the East Asia and Pacific Region.  This means the rights of every child living in this country, irrespective of their nationality, gender, religion or ethnicity, to:

  • survival – to basic healthcare, peace and security;
  • development – to a good education, a loving home and adequate nutrition;
  • protection – from abuse, neglect, trafficking, child labour and other forms of exploitation; and
  • participation – to express opinions, be listened to and take part in making any decisions that affect them

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) is issuing a call for a roster of pre-approved Content Writers (consultants) with agreed, when-actually-engaged fees and terms of engagement. This will also help UNICEF EAPRO and Country Offices in the region to contract their services to document UNICEF's activities in the field on an “as needed” basis, to share with stakeholders at the national, regional and global level, and to use as an advocacy tool.

Work assignment and deliverables:

  • Write, edit and finalize communications materials such as, but not limited to, concise human-interest stories, blogs, key messages, web articles, op-eds, media and advocacy materials, and text for photo essays, as well as other communication materials for website, prints and other applications as required.
  • Where required and when a photographer has been engaged, work with photographers to capture relevant powerful images for stories and photo-essays.
  • Write, edit and finalize programmatic materials, including but not limited to technical reports, publications, case studies, investment cases and programming briefs as required.
  • Research issues being documented, including where needed in-depth interviews with programme staff, community, service providers, government counterparts and beneficiaries, while being mindful of the sensitivities of specific situations, to support the content writing.

In all written products the following considerations must be made:

  • Protecting the rights of the child must be given priority above all considerations when collecting and writing stories and other materials.
  • Ensuring evidence generation adheres to UNICEF Procedure for Ethical Standards in Research, Evaluation and Data Collection and Analysis

Duration of Contract:   The duration will be determined on a needs basis and a contract for the consultant will be raised for the period in which he/she is needed.

 Duty Travel: Travel should only be undertaken if it is essential for the completion of a deliverable and cannot be achieved remotely.

If travel is required for specific assignments, it must be agreed upon with the hiring unit in advance. UNICEF will cover travel-related costs for approved assignments.
