How can you make a difference?
The ICT and Digital Innovation Section at UNICEF's East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) is looking for an Interaction (UX) Designer to lead and support the design and delivery of user-centred digital solutions. This role will focus on designing tools and systems to streamline and improve situational reporting (SitRep) and data-driven emergency responses. Collaborating with a small data team and a wider set of stakeholders, the designer will contribute to developing automated visualisations and cost estimation tools for disaster response, as well as supporting high-effort initiatives such as damage assessments for health and education infrastructure to lead and support the design and delivery of user-centred digital solutions.

Work assignment, Expected deliverable and Delivery schedule:
The consultant will collaborate with Frontier Data Lab (FDL), Regional Office Emergency team, and COs to:
- Develop user-centred design concepts for automated situational reporting (SitRep) tool and other tools as required.
- Lead the design of systems, such as:
- Visualisation of population displacement.
- Cost estimation tools for disaster response.
- Support the development of systems, such as:
- Damage assessments for health and education infrastructure.
- Preparedness and impact estimation tools for scenarios with unreliable data collection during emergencies.
- Work with teams to design inclusive interpretable and actionable data visualisations of
- Mobility and displacement data
- Population density
- Health and Education Facility locations
- Translate research insights into actionable design decisions and innovative solutions that drive targeted humanitarian responses.
- Facilitate design sessions to ensure collaboration across teams, including policy, technology, and field teams.
- Document and communicate design decisions, risks, and trade-offs to stakeholders.
- Support alignment of design work to organisational goals and strategic priorities.
- Use agile methodologies to adapt to shifting priorities, requirements, and user needs.
Under the guidance of EAPRO’s Regional T4D Manager, the consultant will collaborate closely with
regional T4D and program teams, as well as T4D, data, and program teams based in country offices
throughout the East Asia and Pacific region.

Duty Travel: No travel is required for this consultancy.
Payment Schedule:
The final fee will be settled after the satisfactory completion of the services mentioned above and the submission of final deliverables.

- Skilled in planning and facilitating collaborative design workshops.
- Experience involving diverse stakeholders in the design process.

- Proficient in analysing and synthesising complex user research and data.
- Experience creating and testing hypotheses to refine designs.
- Iterative Design:
- Expertise in prototyping complex ideas and iterating designs based on user feedback.
- Experience applying agile methodologies to design processes.
Leadership (Working Level):
- Experience leading and coordinating design efforts within teams.
- Strong ability to communicate the value of user-centred design to stakeholders.
- Proven ability to mentor and support junior designers.
Additional Requirements:
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in UX or interaction design roles.
- Strong portfolio showcasing at a minimum, 2-3 of examples of complex digital design projects that showcase UI skills
- Familiarity with tools like Figma, Adobe XD, or similar design platforms.
- Frontend html / css experience to support the team in applying designs to existing tools.
- Understanding of UNICEF’s mission and commitment to ethical design is a plus.
