How can you make a difference?

The Chief, NY Facilities and Administration, under the overall guidance and within delegated authority of the Comptroller, is responsible for the UNICEF NY buildings management which includes, Real Estate Planning and Strategy, Capital projects development and implementation, Space Management, and Customer Helpdesk. The Chief NY Facilities and Administration is also responsible for overseeing the building's Operations and Maintenance (O&M), including Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, security, cleaning, and other services, including installation and maintenance, janitorial services, waste management, security and access control, Environmental quality and compliance, and landscaping. Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing In-House Strategy for the management of the UN House building in perspective of the ownership of this building in 2026. The incumbent ensures that staff in NYHQ benefit from well-functioning, safe, environmentally friendly, accessible and inclusive premises and facilities. 

-Leads UNICEF in the strategic planning and management of the New York Headquarters facilities, ensuring safe, accessible, and environmentally sustainable premises that support UNICEF’s mission and operational needs.

-Oversees real estate planning, space management, and capital project development, for NYHQ facilities, ensuring UNICEF’s infrastructure aligns with evolving organizational requirements, particularly in preparation for the UN House building ownership in 2026.

-Oversees the operations and maintenance of the UNICEF NY premises, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, security, cleaning, environmental compliance, and general facility services to maintain a high-quality working environment.

-Provides oversight of the travel policy administration, ensuring cost-effective and efficient travel solutions, including global airline negotiations and diplomatic visa facilitation. In carrying out this role, the Chief will ensure close coordination with Chief Field Support and Eco Sustainability to ensure global field support.

-Establishes and enhances systematic records management and archiving policies, ensuring secure, accessible, and compliant data storage and retrieval in line with UNICEF’s operational needs.

 To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Minimum requirements 
        1. Education: Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in Valuation & Real Estate, Finance and Investment, Business Administration, Property Management, Facilities Management and any other related fields.
        2. Work Experience: At Least 10 years of relevant work experience in Financial Management, Planning , Facilities Management, Real Estate Planning, Space Management, Operations and Maintenance, Environmental Compliance, Travel Policy Administration.
        3. Skills: Sustainability, Records Management, Facilities Operations, Property Maintenance, Travel Policy, Strategic Planning skills
        4. Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required. 
  • Desirables
      1. Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language
      2. Diplomatic skills, Negotiation, Accessibility, Inclusiveness
      3. Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergencies.

Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
