UNICEF China has many different audiences it needs to reach with accurate, simple and in a creative way to explain why its work for children is important and what it does. To support this, we need additional resources to produce simple information products to be used in publications, presentations, on the internet, for adaptation in social media and for advocacy campaigns.

There is a strong and clear mandate for strengthening UNICEF's brand and digital presence that creates a need for professional designed assets.

UNICEF China wishes to set up a Long Term Arrangement (LTA) for the procurement of services of individual consultants who can help support the professional design of various communication and advocacy products, as required from time to time during the term of this contract.

How can you make a difference? 

To find freelance graphic designers who can produce infographics and do basic design work for advocacy and campaign products. They will work on specific assignments as needed. This will include the following:  

  1. Laying out documents and publications
  2. Creating infographics 
  3. Designing social media assets to support campaigns
  4. Designing backdrops, creatives for events
  5. Designing and adapting posters for livestreaming
  6. Laying out Chinese versions of UNICEF Global reports based on our global layout and design
  7. Developing visual content for presentations
  8. Creating promotional materials such as flyers, posters, and banners
  9. Designing and producing simple H5 pages
  10. Editing and enhancing infographics and booklets to meet project requirements
  11. Collaborating with the team to ensure brand consistency across all materials and in line with UNICEF brand guidelines
  12. Providing creative input during brainstorming sessions

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Individuals undertaking the assignment must meet following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree is mandatory. Diplomas in a relevant field such as design, arts, communications, media, advertisement, etc. will be considered an added value.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in design work and creating infographics, including inclusive communication assets production.
  • Track record in understanding and producing designed content for international organizations especially UN agencies on development issues a plus. 
  • Ability to unpack information and work with UNICEF China to conceptualize how information should be packaged. 
  • Ability to create infographics based on facts and graphs and explain information in an interesting and creative way. 
  • Ability to produce a Chinese version of these elements that can be used in China 
  • Have knowledge of latest graphic design trends and ability to use high-end design software such as the latest versions of Adobe Creative Suite for designing creative content  
  • Ability to produce content in English as well as Chinese 
  • Ability to work with a multicultural team, under tight deadlines 

Languages:

Fluency in both English and Chinese is required.

Please note the agreed rate for different categories will be a fixed rate applied throughout the validity – three years if applicable - of the LTA.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and advance to the next stage of the selection process. 

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
