Selected photographs will be used in UNICEF's communication and advocacy materials such as publications, digital platforms, websites, educational and awareness-raising materials, etc. In addition, these products will be used to promote children's rights in Myanmar and support UNICEF and UN mandates.
Additionally, the consultant will provide descriptive captions and/or quotes (depending on the image) for all edited/finalized photos. The consultant must also provide signed consent form together with all photos.
Estimated Duration of LTA:
This is a time-bond LTA, and the duration of the long-term agreement will be 36 months from June 2025 to June 2028. Candidates who are successful for the long-term agreement will be contacted within this duration to be contracted for specific assignments as and when needed. The initial assignment is scheduled to begin in June 2025 for a total of 12 months (renewable to the maximum of 36 months).
Duty station/Geographic Area:
The assignment is home-based. Should any in-country travel be scheduled, the consultant will be reimbursed based on actual approved and authorized travel. UNICEF will reserve funds to cover this. This amount does not have to be included in the proposal.
Description of Assignment:
MAJOR TASKS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED
Under the oversight of the Chief of Communication and Advocacy and the Communications Specialist, the consultant will work closely with the section and Communication Officer to deliver high quality photography services for specific assignments within the Country Office.
This consultancy aims to provide visual documentation of the work supported by UNICEF and capture the moments in the lives of children/adolescents to produce communication and advocacy materials to be used by UNICEF Myanmar and external partners across various platforms.
The assignment aims at professional photographic coverage of UNICEF-supported programmes (programmatic interventions), first-person narrative visual storytelling of children's lives in Myanmar and capturing positive, everyday voices through portraits of children, adolescents, and families.
The duration and scope of each assignment will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Responsibilities of the Consultant:
- The photographers will use their own equipment to conduct assignments.
- The Photographers are responsible for pre-selecting a shortlist of the best images. The minimum number of photographs from each assignment will be agreed upon with the photographer.
- The photographers will not put their own name or logo/emblem on the content / final product. The only organisation branding will be UNICEF, if required.
- Consultants are required to comply with locally applicable security measures, including obtaining security clearance from the UNDSS prior to any official travel and, if applicable, taking up accommodation in pre-approved hotels/guest houses only.
DELIVERABLES
- Submit photographs and/or B-rolls no later than the agreed deadline and in a digital form suitable for large-size colour printing (i.e. 8” x 12” jpeg format with 300 dpi resolution) with appropriate dimensions, colour adjustments, noise reduction and other post-processing as agreed with the service requestor.
- All photographs must comply with UNICEF’s ethical and visual guidelines. It includes the use of consent forms in relevant cases. UNICEF has world rights of all selected media in perpetuity.
- Accompanied by captions embedded in the photo files as metadata and submitted separately in a WORD document in English specifying depicted activities, location, date, names of subjects, photographer’s name and other relevant details.
- The files will be submitted on a memory stick/external hard drive, or a suitable file share platform as agreed between the service requestor and the contractor.

Qualifications and Experience
- At least Secondary Education or professional certificate in a relevant field such as photography, communications, journalism, marketing, advertisement, filmmaking, etc.
- Five years of proven experience in professional digital photography.
- Demonstrated experience in photography in the area of development/humanitarian/child right issues.
Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrates professional competence and knowledge of the areas of work.
- Proven expertise in development photography.
- Utilises high-resolution, state-of-the-art digital camera/equipment for the assignment
- Good image editing skills and experience.
- Available and willing to travel for assignments, often on short notice.
- Ability to work under pressure, be open to input/scrutiny, respect cultural contexts and deliver on tight deadlines.
- Experience working NGOs, INGOs and UN agencies is an asset.

Languages
- Fluency in English is required (this will be essential in captioning the photographs).

- A cover letter explaining the motivation for applying and explaining how the qualifications and skillset of the candidate are relevant to the consultancy
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Portfolio containing a selection of images of development work/social realities (preferably from Myanmar but can include other countries) which can be provided in digital format. It is critical to submit work samples as marks have been assigned to these criteria for arriving at the most suitable candidates.
- A financial proposal indicating professional fee as per the attached "Expression of Interest" form:

- Certificates of mandatory courses (to be submitted after the LTA is awarded)
Without all the above four documents (excluding mandatory certificates to submit later) your application will be considered incomplete and invalid and will not be considered further.
- Any attempt to unduly influence UNICEF’s selection process will lead to automatic disqualification of the applicant.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
