How can you make a difference? 

PURPOSE

The purpose of the mapping is to define how business impacts children in Romania and to assess the potential for Romania UNICEF’s engagement with business and on business policies/practices to deliver outcomes for children.

The end result of this work will identify the most pressing impacts on children and recommend a few potential private sector engagement strategies within UNICEF programming:

  • Identified priority sectors or thematic areas where multiple business sectors might be relevant.
  • Identify key business stakeholders: business associations, chambers of commerce, companies, influencers.
  • Identify key associations/civil society/other stakeholders: who are instrumental within the sector based on a qualified assessment within the CO’s area of influence and reach.
  • Determine the modalities of engagement: (inspired by the Wheel of Engagement) to
    • work with key players, (companies, business associations, entrepreneurs)
    • work with key industry chambers
    • work with regulatory agents to drive legislation

Data/information Analysis generated in different phases, with executive summary

  1. The report (in word format) should have approximately maximum 25-30 pages (plus Annexes).
  2. Draft report presented to UNICEF for input (short presentation & discussion with UNICEF team)
  3. Final report (in word format) submitted.
  4. 2-3 pages summary visual report (format to be agreed with UNICEF team), including main findings and recommendations.

Deliverable 3:

 

PowerPoint presentation

  1. Presentation of report, containing main findings and recommendations for advocacy and partnership purposes, including key advocacy messages relevant to Romanian market, and opportunities for enhancing UNICEF’s strategic engagement with business.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • A first University Degree in any of the following areas: Psychology, Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Business management, Business is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in designing and conducting research and surveys, quantitative and qualitative analysis and data analysis.
  • Demonstrable experience in the conduct of Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices surveys, developing qualitative and quantitative research tools and implementing such research.
  • Strong analysis and ability to use key data analysis.
  • Good understanding of human and child rights issues.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset. 
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Fluency in Romanian is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

Desired requirements:

  • Thorough understanding of the CSR and private sector environment within Romania and broader in the EU.
  • Experience and knowledge of public-private partnerships within Romania.
  • Proven knowledge on human resource management, marketing and communication, regulation and legislation related to Labour Law and other areas of expertise related to Children´s Rights and Business Principles.
  • Strong critical thinking capacity and ability to produce high-quality reports and documentation.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
