For every child, the right to answers

The global violence-prevention community must consider the role of technology in children’s lives, as online content and interactions play an ever-greater part in shaping their attitudes and behaviors in both positive and negative ways. However, in its attempt to define, understand and measure the complex forms of violence that children and adolescents experience online and in person, the field has proliferated with multiple and often overlapping conceptual framings, understanding, and terminologies (e.g. childhood sexual abuse, online violence, online child sexual exploitation and abuse, technology-facilitated gender-based violence). Complicating matters further, different actors and bodies of work have emerged exploring these phenomena often in isolation and without sufficient collaboration, thus limiting opportunities for cross-learning.

How can you make a difference? 

Research & Analysis
• Oversee the narrative review of existing literature and evidence.
• Organize and conduct interviews with researchers and stakeholders across sectors.
• Map intersections between CSA and TFGBV, including emerging trends and drivers.
• Support the development of a conceptual framework to visually capture findings and maps both conceptualization of the phenomena and, separately, existing methodologies to research them.

Content Development
• Draft and revise the thought piece in collaboration with internal and external experts.
• Produce communication outputs (e.g., blogs, podcasts, social media content).
• Prepare presentations for dissemination at international conferences.

Project Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
• Lead the implementation of the project workplan and ensure timely delivery of milestones.
• Coordinate the formation and engagement of a cross-sectoral advisory group.
• Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, UN agencies, and survivor networks.
• Ensure findings are disseminated to key decision-makers and practitioners.

Monitoring & Evaluation
• Track progress against project objectives and deliverables.
• Integrate feedback from advisory group consultations and internal reviews.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: 
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Public Health, Psychology, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, International Development, or a related field.
  • Work Experience: 
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in research, project management, or policy work related to child protection, gender-based violence, or digital safety.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating multi-stakeholder research or advocacy projects.
  • Strong understanding of CSA, TFGBV, and the influence of digital environments on youth behavior.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with experience producing high-quality reports and knowledge products.
  • Language Requirements: English

Desirables:

  • Familiarity with UNICEF’s work and global child protection frameworks is an asset.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
  • Knowledge of a second UN official language (in addition to English) is desirable.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF.
