For every child, the right to protection
How can you make a difference?
Children interact with justice systems for many reasons, including as victims or survivors, witnesses, children alleged as or accused of an offence, parties to civil or administrative proceedings, or children requiring care, protection or other support. Children’s access to justice therefore encompasses judicial, administrative, customary, religious and quasi-judicial mechanisms, as well as alternative dispute resolution, across criminal, civil, administrative and other areas of law.
UNICEF’s Reimagine Justice for Children Agenda advances six interrelated priorities: legal empowerment; legal aid and representation; diversion from formal justice proceedings; protection from detention; access to justice for survivors of violence; and child-friendly courts and alternative dispute resolution. It also seeks to strengthen protection from deprivation of liberty in justice, migration, armed conflict, national security and institutional settings, including for children living in detention with a primary caregiver.
Additional time-bound technical capacity is required to respond to growing requests from country and regional offices; support implementation of the Reimagine Justice for Children Agenda and relevant evaluation recommendations; conduct rapid research; strengthen knowledge management and global learning; and support selected advocacy, webinar and conference activities.
