How can you make a difference? 

Under the supervision and guidance of the Deputy Regional Director for West and Central Africa, the programme associate supports the section by carrying out a range of programme support functions to help develop, implement and monitor their region, ensuring effective and timely delivery that is consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations. The Programme Associate works in close collaboration with a range of staff in the RO, external partners and agency counterparts in support of programme design and delivery. S/He provides regular feedback on the status of projects through monitoring milestones and advises on improvements to keep activities on track.

The Programme Associate will be responsible for the following activities:

1. Collect, register and maintain information on technical assistance and capacity building activities by reviewing reports and through first-hand sources.

2. Organize and consolidate data and information, prepare and maintaining records, documents and control plans for the office of the deputy regions Director and the coordination of the regional team of technical advisors and related budget

3. Contribute to the preparation of reports, annual work plans by providing information, preparing table and drafting relatively routines sections

4. Scrutinize plans of operations, exchange of letter and take appropriate follow-up action. Assist in the organization of coordination meetings, workshops, workshops, meetings and conferences call, prepare background information for use during discussions and prepare minutes.

5. Raise and finalize requisitions and requests and ensure follow up of the process up to the completion. Ensure monitoring of PBAs expenditure level, coherence of expenditure with donor requirements and expiration date for prompt action from the POs and COs.

6. Coordinate information management, agenda's and schedules with the office of the Regional Director when required.

7. Perform other duties, as required, such as supporting other RO sections in duties of Programme associate

The following minimum requirements:

Education:

Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization.

Work Experience:

  • At least 6 years of administrative or clerical work experience is required.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of the administration which underpins UNICEF country office programme/project operations, including monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Strong organizational, planning and prioritizing skills and abilities.
  • High sense of confidentiality, initiative and good judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong office management skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively manage the section’s material resources and monitor its budget.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Experience using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other UNICEF software such as SharePoint.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.

The following desirables:

  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Prior experience in programme support functions is an asset.

Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
