How can you make a difference? 

UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) is issuing a call for a roster of pre-approved Photographers (consultants) with agreed, when-actually-engaged fees and terms of engagement. This will also help UNICEF EAPRO and Country Offices in the region to contract their services to document UNICEF's activities in the field on an “as needed” basis, to share with stakeholders at the national, regional and global level, and to use as an advocacy tool.

Work assignments:

• Capture high-resolution photographs documenting issues affecting children and UNICEF and partners’ programmatic response.

• Write concise, well-edited captions for all images according to UNICEF guidelines. Captions should be embedded in the images and shared separately as a word document as well. These captions should have specific details such as the location taken, name and age of the person(s), activity, and any other relevant information.

• The consultant should: Keep in mind culture, gender and other diverse sensitivities as per UNICEF guidelines. The photographs should be usable for diverse audiences and have universal appeal.

• Ensure effective and efficient provision of services, full confidentiality in all aspects of the assignment, management of information flow and follow-up on deadlines and commitments made.

• Ensure consent forms are signed by children and/or guardians as per UNICEF guidelines.

• Stay abreast of the latest developments in the field of photography, including optimal framing, photo quality and sizing formats (horizontal/square/vertical) for popular social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram

• Conduct all work independently, in accordance with professional standards. This includes working from their own office and using their own hardware and software equipment.

All production of multimedia content for UNICEF must:

• Uphold the UNICEF standards on Child Safeguarding in multimedia

• Adhere to UNICEF imagery standards, including on Respectful Child Imagery, and adhere to UNICEF photo and caption specifications.

 

Duration of Contract:   The duration will be determined on a needs basis and a contract for the consultant will be raised for the period in which he/she is needed.

 

Duty Travel: Travel should only be undertaken if it is essential for the completion of a deliverable and cannot be achieved remotely.

If travel is required for specific assignments, it must be agreed upon with the hiring unit in advance. UNICEF will cover travel-related costs for approved assignments.

If travel expenses are necessary, the consultant may request an advance payment to cover travel related costs, subject to approval by the hiring unit. All travel expenses must be supported by receipts and comply with the organization’s travel policy

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

• Degree in communications, arts, media, visual art, photojournalism, or any relevant field and/or internationally recognized certificates in photography.

• Minimum five years of progressive (preferably international) experience as a photographer.

• Demonstrated portfolio of high-quality photographs taken for large, high-profile media agencies, International Organisations, United Nations agencies or development projects.

- Previous work experience and knowledge of the development landscape and issues facing children in East Asia & Pacific is an asset.

- Previous work experience with UNICEF and familiarity with UNICEF’s multimedia standards and guidelines is an asset.

• Keen understanding of the use of photography across a variety of mediums and ability to create content that can be used on both traditional and social media platforms

• Available and willingness to travel across the region.

• Demonstrate a client-oriented approach, tact and ability to work with people of different cultural backgrounds.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
