Scope of work

UNICEF office in Rome is looking for a consultant to support  the production of branding and design of materials and publications for the UNICFE National Response in Italy.

Tasks under this consultancy

  • Design fact sheets, advocacy briefs, brochures, data briefs and/or reports for priority areas of work (2-page, 4-page, 8-page, etc), some of which will be used as media products. The documents will include text, data visualizations and UNICEF photographs.
  • Design infographics, data visualizations and factographs, for print and/or digital platforms and social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter).
  • Design and layout Powerpoint presentations, as requested.
  • Design information materials for events, as requested.
  • Liaise with printing companies on the production of specific print products.

Terms and conditions of payment

The assignment is planned to last till 31 December 2026. As the funding will be received in tranches, the initial contract will cover deliverables for 3 months, additional days will be added based on the funding receipt and satisfactory performance. Design services will be delivered on an as requested basis and paid by daily rate upon successful completion of each assignment as certified by the requesting section.

- Work location: Home-based in a country with a similar time zone to Italy

- Payment schedule: The consultant will be paid based on satisfactory and timely submission of deliverables.

- Duration: 24.5 days until 31 December 2026, with the possibility of adding 75.5 days during the period, based on funding availability and performance.

- Applicants are requested to submit a portfolio for this consultancy; applications without a sample will not be considered.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • University degree in design. Years of experience (min 5 years) accompanied by professional certifications may replace the degree
  • At least five years of professional graphic design experience;
  • Excellent creative skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign software;
  •  Fluent Italian, Intermediate English.
  • Ability to deliver high quality products under tight deadlines;
  • Experience working with printing and production companies.
  • Experience working remotely, very responsive over email, teams, zoom etc;
  • Interested candidates should share a link to their portfolio. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.

Desired

  • Familiarity with UNICEF’s branding and style guidelines; ideally experience designing products for UNICEF or other UN agencies;
  • The ability to work in other UN languages would be an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
